I don't think Reni would harm Clovis; she's very Lawful Good. She may even pry Nat's fingers from around his throat and arrest him.

Of course, since the only available detention area is the dungeon containing his now-recovering ex-co-conspirator Brutus, Clovis may not make it to trial...

Do we know that for sure? All we really know is that he's not dead. For all we know, he's still unconscious by that hole in the wall. Also, are we sure the dungeons are the only place to hold him? She may end up taking him somewhere else, for worse criminals. It's highly unlikely the Edinmire dungeons are the highest security available, in a world of magic.

I think it's more "It's a critical hit!", since it wouldn't really do much serious damage otherwise. I mean, would a shot anywhere else do more than tick him off more?

On a separate note, Nat just realized that he is far more magically powerful with his soul intact than when he was linked to his brother Zen. I have said before and will say it again, Nat is now a force to be reckoned with. I'll even go as far as Nat might not even need mana crystals use magic. He might be akin to Evals except he doesn't have a human form to be able to use magic without mana crystals. If Nat is a rare keidrian that doesn't need mana to use magic, ho would have never had the chance to find out when he fractured his soul trying to see his parents.

Natani appears to be using Clovis' amulet for the power source. It's made to allow Keidran to use dragon magic, and there's no reason to suspect it would be picky about Which Keidran.
