Oh, it most certainly CAN be. As a New England mechanic, I assure you it's possible. You haven't seen STUCK, until you've had to melt a bolt out of the hole it broke in. Now THAT's what I call STUCK.

I though the standard was to drill through the bolt not melt it

Like I said. STUCK. There are some bolts, specifically those on turbochargers, where the bolts and threaded holes are all made out of a hard enough material that it can't be drilled without breaking the drill bit, and even if you get the bolt to turn by getting the flange glowing red hot, it'll still snap in the hole, and take all the bolt threads with it. So your only option is either sit there with a dremel and a bit the size of a pencil tip for a few hours, or get the acetylene with a brazing tip and straight-up melt the bolt out of the hole.

And to top it off, those turbo flanges are ridiculously hard, and most taps will break if you try to fix the threads. And if you break a tap in that hole, there's no saving it. Need new turbo, no getting around it.

Let's see how long I can hold on to this.
If it moves but shouldn't: Duct tape. If it doesn't move but should: WD-40. With a hammer everything fits, and if it still doesn't fit: bigger hammer. If it can't be fixed with a hammer it's an electrical problem.

Yeah well you guys were having conversations about cars and stuff that I knew hardly anything about, so I stayed quiet.

Thou hast missed the point. Neutral wanted to win. I was being a generous little grunt by letting him have the win for a while, since it's been so long since he had it. He has the right to enjoy the crown on his head; to enjoy the feeling of superiority, the bright sunshine at the top!

And you just had to take it away from him after I so graciously decided to not swipe it from him an hour later... For Internet Shame! My generosity has been for naught! NEUTRAL! Come take the crown back! DEFEND THINE HONOR!

That's generous. But it's good to see other people.

Not if the flange is hardened and the bolt is not.

But still. Though it is nice to see other people, I can't help but realize most of this thread is monopolized by, like, 2 people. Crown should be passed around.

Lies. You were never gonna let him enjoy the crown for a while. I just acted quicker. :P
And hey, I encouraged some other people to join in the fun.

Hardened as in... quenched or tempered?

I have no much life outside job either...
