Indeed. Customers tend to leave a lot of ash when burned, too.

In all seriousness, a lot of auto-related shops burn waste oil for heat. It's hazardous waste, after all, and if we don't burn it, we have to pay somebody to have it disposed of.

If it moves but shouldn't: Duct tape. If it doesn't move but should: WD-40. With a hammer everything fits, and if it still doesn't fit: bigger hammer. If it can't be fixed with a hammer it's an electrical problem.

Every time I think I've grown enough to handle stupid with dignity, something else comes along and proves me wrong.

I replaced an engine last week. Now it throws codes when I test drive it. Problem is, it throws a different code every time, never throws the same one twice, and drives just fine. All I do is clear codes, and it throws a new one. Three times in a row so far.

I swear this thing's doing this on purpose. There's no other explanation.

I'll be making a trip today to discuss my latest dumpster fire of a project with somebody almost as crazy as myself.

Who put plastic gears inside an engine block, and what were they smoking when they came up with that...

Might've been the accounts department?

It's a Briggs & Stratton Lawnmower engine. They're famously reliable. I have a hard time believing they'd cave to the accounting department when it comes to durability.

Either way, with luck, I'll be replacing plastic camshaft drive gears with bicycle sprockets and chain. That should hold indefinitely.

B&S filed for bankruptcy a couple of years ago, and got picked up by a venture capital company, so it's now owned by accountants.
