Did Patreon Change Something?

#1 Post by TheMasterOfOats »

So I'm too broke to be a patron of Twokinds, but I still take the opportunity to write comments and discuss things on Patreon regarding Sunday sketches and the like. I hopped on to patreon to get a closer look at the new sketch, but it said "You must be a Patron to write comments." Is this a decision that Tom makes for his personal Patreon, or did Patreon implement a ToS change?

I need me some story comments, dangit.

I am not patron either. My currency exchange makes it rather complicated.
But for what I know only sketches that are deemed to risque are blocked anything else is supposed to be public.
There are three things that motivate people: Money, fear and love.

Yeah, I knew that too. But now only patrons can comment, which kinda stifles a lot of conversation.

Is this a decision that Tom makes? Or just Patreon. Kinda unfortunate for those too broke to support but still love the Patreon crowd.

I did a quick search and it looks like this is a change Patreon made, although it's generated surprisingly little noise online. If that's the case I think it's a reasonable change for most Patreon creators.

Tom's Patreon is something of a minority in the way it's used since his is almost entirely public except for those posts required to be behind a paywall by the terms of service. Most users don't do that. So with that being said I guess Tom's Patreon is an unfortunate casualty of this policy change.

I agree. Dang, indeed. I'm really sorry, I've been trying to message Patreon and get them to change their mind about this new comment policy of theirs, but so far no dice. Though strangely, some non-patrons still seem to be able to comment, but I haven't been able to find any rhyme or reason why or how. I have figured out that people with Patreon pages seem to be able to comment on other Patreons for some reason. Weird.

I'll try to keep after them. My hope is that they'll at least implement an option I can check to allow public comments. For now, sorry again.

Haha, I know it’s not your fault, but thanks for trying. I’ll be praying you get through.

Although honestly, I’m still getting over the fact that Tom replied to one of my posts.
