To have this be one of the things that kickstart your day, I wanted to be mad. But for that exact reason, I couldn't. I just stared and thought. Is this the first time I've thought about Oum's death? of course not, but every time I think about it, I'm stuck in this dazed and stunned state of mind and think what I usually think. "What could've been had he lived" and "The consequences of his death". I won't go over the first one because it could be literally anything. I will go over the second one, however.
The state of RWBY and RedvsBlue following the events of the death of Monty Oum. Featuring, my opinions
RedvsBlue: Monty was a co-writer and animation director for Red vs. Blue and died towards the of season 12. following his death, however, the story and animation weren't quite the same but they were still ok. Then came the end of Season 13, Most fans (myself included) think it should've ended there. Then came along season 15 (we don't talk about season 14) and along with it. The Shisno Paradox Arc. Beginning with that the story and fight choreography went to S*:t.
RWBY: Monty Oum created RWBY, and pretty much maintained the same roles as RvB but gained a few more. RWBY shares a similar story as RvB except less extreme. but where it lacks extremity, it certainly makes up for with fan-pandering. Every time I think about it, the more I feel bad for the writers right now. Blake and Yang (two of the main characters) when Monty was still alive, as a viewer you could see that those two characters' relationship was probably going somewhere but after he died, fans pandering became a bit more extreme on lots of the ships and that ship was so extremely backed by fans that the writers just effing gave up.
Should You Watch Any Of These???
I know I just S*:t-talked them a lot but at a point in their lives both of the aforementioned series were extremely good however be warned if you watch RedvsBlue either stop watching at season 13 finale or season 10 finale. I actually had the ending for season 13 spoiled for me and I still almost cried. season 6 is where the plot picks up but there are important things in seasons 1-5 that if you miss, you'll be confused for a while.
Now for RWBY. If you watch, you'll probably either really like it or not be interested at all, if you do like it watch up to season 3 at least but you'll be disappointed and will watch season 4, 5, 6, 7, and be even more disappointed. despite being so disappointed you'll keep watching, and watching just hoping that the hardcore shippers/stans will stop and the story can be normal once more. but it's a stupid dream nothing but that. a naive stupid dream. FOR AS LONG AS MORE THAN 1 FICTIONAL CHARACTER EXISTS THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SHIPPERS.
Side Note. if you really want something in a story, don't harass the author. harassing him just takes gives him a bad impression of his fanbase and takes away his passion for the thing he's working on. We all have our own ships, but you don't have to have canonical justification. if the story takes a different turn just deal with it or stop reading/watching.
