Demons Beware!
Considering the actual Daisy died horrible on the second, or was the first?, Doom game this is a rather nicer outcome. And seeing doomguy sitting calmly is nice, for a change.

Flora passes judgement on your ships on the Justice Card (j/k). Wonder if we'll see all the Major Arcana?

Trace will either be The Star or the Fool.
If the universe is infinite, does that mean that there is a version of me out there who's thinking the exact same thing?

While we're on the topic of alternate universes, is there one where I'm a lawyer? If yes, then I may be more evil than I thought.

This settles it. Flora is cute no matter what she does. Well...…. sort of.

This is a neat diversion here. I'd never read about the symbolism of tarot cards before, it's pretty interesting. I took a stab at coming up with my own list, after covering up yours so that I wouldn't be influenced by your choices. We ended up making some similar picks, but there were some notable differences too. I tried to go based on the interpretations of each card's message rather than just the names (which were all I ever knew about them before), and I also made it (almost) all characters instead of allowing any inanimate objects. I'm still not sure on a few of them, and some cards I don't really see a character that's a *great* fit, but it's a neat exercise. I put no stock in astrology or the like, of course, but this stuff is still very interesting simply as philosophical statements about human nature and the way we try to interpret the world.

Code: Select all

The Fool Trace
The Magician Euchre
The High Priestess	Raine
The Empress Saria
The Emperor Templar Trace
The Hierophant The Seer's daughter
The Lovers Keith and Natani
The Chariot Nora
Strength Adelaide
The Hermit Alaric
Wheel of Fortune	Rose
Justice Mary
The Hanged Man Mike and Evals
Death The Masks
Temperance Lynn
The Devil Evil Smoke Hallucination
The Tower Brahn
The Star Maeve
The Moon Nibbly
The Sun Flora
Judgement Laura
The World Lyn'knoll
I was especially intrigued by how well some of them fit in terms of both their more obvious and more subtle meanings at the same time. For example, "The Lovers", in addition to being associated with romance, also has elements of making hard choices, overcoming challenges, and even self-sacrifice, all of which themes fit 'Keith and Natani' very well. Or, how "Strength" isn't simply about physical prowess, but fortitude, courage, and mental discipline, and has connotations of feminine-aspect wisdom stabilizing and empowering masculine-aspect strength, which seem to me to really fit Adelaide well. The Evil Smoke Hallucination as "The Devil" is also a perfect fit on so many levels - it's the dark temptations in our nature, it's bondage and the possibility of being controlled by evil forces, it's fear and anger and all the negative emotions. "The Empress" is obviously a feminine card, but one strongly associated with growth and love and compassion and the power that proceeds from them, which seems to me to fit Saria and her work to try to heal the hatreds between human and keidran, but it also has a sort of ironic pairing between Saria as "The Empress" and Trace as "The Emperor" - the positive and negative aspects of that couple's influence on the world before the events of the comic. And finally, "The Sun" really fits Flora to a tee - not just in the obvious meanings of joy and vitality and optimism, but it also has connotations of rediscovering one's true self (i.e. her stabilizing influence on Trace) and the primordial goodness and beauty of life. It's neat how universal these sorts of themes are in human nature and the stories we craft.
