I like this idea, back an opt-in system, and want to state I'd participate if it happens. If time is an issue, make the voting last a month. Should be plenty of time.

Is this forum even large enough for this award thing?

I have the feeling I see the same ten active people everywhere.

But if you do, include the more positive things like 'least annoying newcomer' (less than 1 year registered, but more than 1 month, and at least 10 posts) and 'most helpful user'.
If it moves but shouldn't: Duct tape. If it doesn't move but should: WD-40. With a hammer everything fits, and if it still doesn't fit: bigger hammer. If it can't be fixed with a hammer it's an electrical problem.

There are comparatively few majorly active users, I'll give you that, but there are a lot of people on these forums.

And if it comes down to the point where so few people show up that we have too many awards to give out, we can always resort to custom awards for each participant.

As we did it at camp, the person in question would walk to the edge of earshot until the rest of the group came up with his/her award, then they would come back. Not sure how wwe would do that here... Giant group PM, maybe?

It really depends on how many people would participate.

Spero, since this was your suggestion, why don't you make a poll about it? You can add a link to this thread, and ask how many people would like to participate, and we can get a baseline from there.

There are over 9000 registered users, I have no idea how many active users there are, but not everyone posts in every section of the forum, so we probably have 20 to 30 active users. If there is a way of track overall user activity (which users have posted in the past week, month, 3 months, 6 months, year, etc.) that would probably be rather helpful for deciding just how many awards to give out.

Hmmm......about what I expected when almost half of the questions I'd want to select a few of the answers not a specific one.

Sounds good, but I'd much prefer it to be opt-in, and I can safely hazard a guess that a lot of other users would too.

Interesting, isn't it? The people it bothers are precisely the people who would never bring it up themselves.

SperoWolf wrote:Patently false. Nearly everyone here who has brought it up themselves has stated that they would be bothered by it without being given the permission to opt in; some even stated that they want to see the questions before deciding whether or not to be included. People who are easily bothered aren't soft-spoken and passive by inherence; that very suggestion is incredibly far-fetched.

I'm just left to wonder why it's this bunch that it strikes a nerve with
I don't think anyone in this thread has outright said they would personally be bothered, whether they would be or not. I raised the opt-in question, and made my arguments, and got some support.

I don't know what these other forums are, obviously, but I doubt there are many where I wouldn't make the same points, to the same kind of results. Any forum of any notable size tends to have all sorts of people on it.

My only argument for opt-in is that it should be someone's own choice whether or not they partake in events like this, I'm not sure that everyone would see the fun aspect to this if they were unwittingly involved.

This seems like it could be fun, if it's run properly. I'm in, if we ever do this.

I don't think I stated that I was in this.

So now I have.

I'd be down for this kind of thing.

I'm fairly thick skinned, so you can probably get away with a few 'taking the piss' awards.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
