Us starting ANOTHER war?
Ok before everyone gets really excited and pissed or whatever, I'm going to say that so far this isn't official and I can't find any articles on it. This is just word of mouth around the US military that we're going to be starting another war soon with Iran. This isn't just the little folks talking about it, there's some people high up in the ranks discussing it also far as I've heard. Does anyone else have any info on this? Articles or anything? or is everyone getting worked up about nothing?

I've not heard so much as a whisper. 'Course I don't keep my ear glued to the news, either.

Re: Us starting ANOTHER war?
I'm thinking its more talk about the current threats by Iran to block the straight of Hormuz. With military exercises by Iran and the threats that they would angage whatever navy the US has there (They have an entire fleet there if I'm not mistaken) one can guess why talks of war are in the air.
EDIT: According to Wiki, its the fifth fleet thats located in the region.

If even Transporter 3 joked about plans for an Iran invasion...
But yeah, I think they're as long around as the ones for the Iraq. After all, they have oil too, haven't they? So I'm sure the moneybags from the oil industry will instruct the puppet in office to invade it and secure the sites for them, like they did with Dubya. Doesn't matter if it's going to be Obama or one of the losers shopped around by the Republicans. At the end of the day, the whole decision-making level is on the payroll of some corporate bigwigs (or is a corporate bigwig as was the case with Cheney).

oh pish, not so fast son.
They'll at least wait a year or two before they do anything I mean, took a real big blow to get them off their butts the last time and shutting down the straight? Don't tell me that that's a good reason to go to war with a country. I mean, you haven't gone to war with Somalia yet eh? and they seem to want to shut down the other one (ugh, name escapes me) every damn day. (lol modern day pirates) And they won't do nothing unless Iran actually DOES shut down the straight (They're just threatening right? means nothing unless they do). And as for oil...that's just a bonus for going to war >.> not the reason, the costs outweigh the benefits. Why? Y'aren't dummies right? I doubt you'd be silly enough to spend that much on oil when you could just buy it....hmm? And if you we're going to invade somewhere JUST for oil...why not the Congo? or some other central African country eh? they have oil and they aren't nearly as prepared.
But don't take my word for it, I'm just some silly Oztrayan.
Besides, I heard somewhere that they were going to start to focus on the Asia pacific region. Just a rumor floating about don't ask me where I heard that >.> probably wrong.

If they do, it will most likely drag Britain into another war which does not concen us, we have a habit of that... Iraq, Afghanistan, even in the London riots people didn't know what they were actually rioting for... other than free stuff

Re: Us starting ANOTHER war?
Iran blocking the Straights of Hormuz? That's pretty much a declaration of "[censored] you, what are you going to do about it?" right there. Somalia threatening to do anything is a joke. "Somalia" can't threaten anything, there is no "Somalia" just a chunk of wasteland with no government.
There's been discussion of Iran for years, but they kind of seem to be openly baiting a conflict now. They can't really expect to win, especially not any naval engagements. Kinda wonder what the game is going to be? Makes me glad I'm not going back and forth through the Straights every 3 days like I was on the Seattle, though.

Same here in Canada. Our soldiers are sent with the wrong equipment in a desert environment (Really. We sent them in forest camo at first because we didn't have desert camo to give them.) for a peace mission.LeBaguette wrote:If they do, it will most likely drag Britain into another war which does not concen us, we have a habit of that...

Can't say much... But you will see some [censored] go down within the next 3 to 4 weeks. Nothing major just yet. But Iran basically wants to control a major portion of the worlds oil supply. We're talking gas prices rising to 7 dollars a gallon at the cheapest in the US. And with the world at an economic crisis, this war may be necessary. Europe is backing us up and china says they won't get involved, Iran is on its own. They SHOULD just give up, but they won't.
Re: Us starting ANOTHER war?
Where did you get this? The oil export is the main pillar of Iran's economy. If they pulled off an Iraq invasion a hostile takeover of oil sources they would harm themselves by the delay in exports. What's more likely is that certain factions want to use Iran's show of force as a pretense for war. You can be sure about $7/gallon in that case.avengedplatypus wrote:But Iran basically wants to control a major portion of the worlds oil supply. My chain of command. Iran wants to block off the gulf and control the transport of oil. The EU US and China doNOT like that one bit.
Re: Us starting ANOTHER war?
Aaaaah, fighting over oil again. Boring.

Re: Us starting ANOTHER war?
Last i heard from my COC we've got a couple naval war vessels docked in the persian gulf. It's the whole, "you better not do it or else" deal. And Iran's trying to flex it's muscles with it's nuclear program and using it against Israel (what else is new? ) that will probably (hopefully) never get off the ground. The whole while the dispute about control of oil and other political games are making tensions stronger and yadda yadda yadda. We'll just have to wait and see I guess. We have a Cpl Coming back from Afghanistan next month, I'll ask if he's got any scuttlebutt from that part of the world.

Iran threatened to block the Strait of Hormuz time and again without consequences, that's just the usual saber-rattling. They're treading on thin ice however, since the hardliners among us are itching to use that as an excuse to go to war.avengedplatypus wrote:My chain of command. We pretty much crippled their nuclear program with the Stuxnet/Duqu cyberattack.Ravenous222 wrote:And Iran's trying to flex it's muscles with it's nuclear program and using it against Israel (what else is new? ) that will probably (hopefully) never get off the ground.

I'm still not sure why everyone is so hyped up about nuclear missiles/bombs. You can do MUCH more lasting damage with a dirty fuel/air bomb or two.Kinuki wrote:Iran threatened to block the Strait of Hormuz time and again without consequences, that's just the usual saber-rattling. If, and that's a big if full of political stupidity, Iran decides to try and block the straits, they'll get hammered into crepes and forced into signing treaties that supposedly guarantee they'll never be able to make war again. It won't even be hard, unless we decide that good press is more important than good sense. Again. Frankly, we should never have to engage them in anything resembling a fair fight. A couple of guided missile cruisers could take out their whole navy from over the horizon, throw in a few destroyers and frigates for missile defense and screening and casualties are unlikely. On our side, anyway.
As for land targets, there really shouldn't be any need to bring in the Marines or Army. Once their Navy is toast, offshore missile attacks and carrier bombing should be able to reduce the rest of their infrastructure to dust. It's not that hard for the USA to decimate another country. Now, doing it without looking bad in the media, that's impossible.
