Five Nights at Freddy's series rant... dear god
I have to say that Five Nights at Freddy's is the number one most overrated video game series after Call of Duty.
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the series, but about 65% of the fanbase haven't even played the video games, and 85% of the Five Nights at Freddy's fanboys are fans of PewDiePie and Markiplier no offense tom, and definitely no offence to markiplier, I have respect from you.
There has already been rumors of a fourth game or film coming out. Scott, what are you thinking?!?!
So yeah, post your hate on Five Nights at Freddy's here.

Not really hating on the series, but I feel like it needs to retire for a while at least. Mark said himself that he'd be fine with the series ending where it is now.
Now the only issue with the series is that the games should get a bit more development time (With the forth is possibly getting around 4 months) and a more elaborate series of events over the 5 nights, rather than just an increased difficulty.
If the 4th gets some solid development time and introduces some needed improvements, I feel like it could surpass it's predecessors.
If it ends up being a cookie cutter type game, then you can complain all you like. In the mean time, lets just see what happens

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I also think it's overrated... Like, greatly.
It had an.. Okay? Story, and the first game was good, but it went massively downhill since 2 hit.

I have a serious case of the I Don't Give A Damn.
If people want to like it, fine. If the game doesn't 'deserve' the fame that's also fine. Someone somewhere recently mentioned "Youtuber bait" and well this is pretty much what the game is. I just don't care enough to... care. Doesn't matter.

The series leans heavily on the cheapest and easiest of the horror mechanics, the jump scare. It's built around this or more specifically the paranoia created by the knowledge that a jump scare is coming and ultimately it feels cheap and nasty and pretty lazy in my opinion. Games like Silent hill deserve the praise they get, 5 Night's really doesn't. It reminds me of Paranormal activity in it's over hyped glory which is also mirrored by how quickly sequels were [censored] out by both parties. It's trash gaming and lots of people may like it they just need to not call it the greatest horror game of all time. On the plus side it isn't getting loads of twitch and tv adverts popping up like the pre mentioned over rated CoD and the equally as obnoxiously over rated Borderlands games (a game it's 'funny' because it can spew internet memes and pop culture references ffs).

I agree that the series as a whole is over-rated. The first one had interesting mechanics and a story that was better left where it was. At this point, it's just doing what COD does, riding it's own wave of success with little to no inspiration or heart being put into it.
I'm so sick of messages from the Markiplier fan groups on Facebook clogging my news feed with the undeserved hype surrounding the fourth game.

I agree with this as well. With any sudden explosion of a profit-earning piece of media, (in this case, FNaF) the new directive is to simply produce more of that media in the hope that it'll earn more money than the prior, well-made game.HugMePlz wrote:All of my yeses here.DragonTamer1 wrote:I agree that the series as a whole is over-rated. Take for example the Assassin's Creed franchise, a series that suffered the same fate that FNaF currently is. The first two games were great, but once the developer realized that the game is a huge money maker, they then said, "Oh! If we produce more, we'll get higher profit income!" In which case, the quality goes skyrocketing down (FNaF 3).
I do hope Scott means it when he says FNaF 4 will be the last one. He's milked the cash cow for what, a year now? We can only hope FNaF 4 will put a final nail in the coffin, and at best, bring closure to the storyline in a meaningful way. As for Markiplier, I think he deserves a better fanbase than one that (mostly) wants him to play FNaF. Mark is an amazing person and is entitled to have a respectable fanbase.

Do I feel like the fourth game is unnecessary? Hell yes
Do I feel like the games are overrated? Oh hell no.
Okay, to be clear, I do understand where people are coming from about how cheap the "horror" aspect of the games are. Yeah, it's all jumpscares, and yes, the only tension comes from the paranoia of when they're going to come.
But what I've really enjoyed out of the games is the lore. I'll admit, I haven't actually played any of the games, only watched others play them. But the story behind it is intriguingly subtle and easy to miss. Most of the people who are even a fan of the games probably assume that the jumpscares are all that there is to the series, and I wouldn't blame them.
But when you get into the story of the games, it becomes a whole lot more gratifying and provides depth and context to the whole scenario.
...All of which is why I don't get the need for a fourth game. The third one wrapped the whole thing up pretty nicely story-wise. I'm feeling like this is going to be just a money-grab, but I'm gonna hold any other opinions until we get to actually see the game.

Wasn't the fourth game considered a big step up from the previous entries in the franchise though?TheWMM wrote: Take for example the Assassin's Creed franchise, a series that suffered the same fate that FNaF currently is. Exactly what my new standpoint is.Fubar de Lizzy wrote: ...All of which is why I don't get the need for a fourth game. The third one wrapped the whole thing up pretty nicely story-wise. Yes, the fourth was good, but Ubisoft stopped using their collective brains when they made Unity. Also, player's reception of 3 was horrible, and Unity was horribly, horribly, god-awful in writing. But that's another topic altogether.Fubar de Lizzy wrote:Wasn't the fourth game considered a big step up from the previous entries in the franchise though?TheWMM wrote: Take for example the Assassin's Creed franchise, a series that suffered the same fate that FNaF currently is. I've never played the Assassin's Creed series, but I heard about how terrible Unity was.SperoWolf wrote:At the risk of derailing, I have to say how much I hated assassin's creed four, simply over how much of an unlikable dickbag Edward was. One more thing, does it happen that there is a screw around thread on these forums?
Anyways, anything else to talk about Five Nights at Freddy's, other than the ugly Springtrap p0rn image?
