Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade
Hello again
Now if there's any fans of the 40k universe here, might I suggest having a quick look at this up coming MMO 3rd person shooter game Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade. The aim of the game is to stay as true to the lore of 40k as possible, going as far as to reject publishers who wanted to tweak a few things about lore and motivations of the different factions. These developers have the interest of 40k fans at heart and want to create something that is both fun and true to 40k.
The game is super pre-alpha at the moment, but seems to show a lot of promise.
From what's been released there will be 4 playable factions at launch; The Space Marines, Chaos, Orks and the Eldar, as well as the currently non playable Tyranids with other factions coming later.
Each race has their own subclasses (Tactical Marines, Ork Nobs, Eldar Guardians) as well as hero classes with devastating abilities, such as Chaos Sorcerers who can open rifts in the Warp and flood the field with Chaos Demons. There was also mentions of subspecies I think, so maybe there would be minor differences between, say, Ultra Marines and Blood Angles or Thousand sons and the Alpha Legion, not sure.
Anyway, have a look if you'd like and let us hear your thoughts on the project.

90% sure it's going to suck balls like every other game they release. THey don't need this, MMO's are pretty much dead already with only the old bloods of the genre still doing anything in the west. What they need is to go KOTOR style and focus it around the Inquisition.

If this game doesn't suck, that would make me soooo happy.Schrodinger wrote:I'm with TB, please let this not suck.
The combat style looks like how it was in 40K Space marine. I'm ok with that. I thought it was outstanding.
I also hope they don't make the game look like [censored] just so it can run on toasters, similar to how every single other friggin MMO does. (Sorry, I'm a graphics whore sometimes)
I checked out their site and the prices they ask for the stuff is pretty outrageous (just like the real tabletop huehuehue).\
Re: Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade
EVE is and old blood having been online since 2003 (This over a decade old now) and Planetside 2, although it isn't newer, is a sequel to Planetside which was also released back in 2003.The Rookie wrote:I dunno, Planetside 2 and EVE seems to be doing alright. Back tot he game in question. It'll be interesting to see if they have custom units or upgrades depending on your chapter/clan/craftworld. If not then you are basically just picking a colour scheme (Woooooo! :eyeroll:) and would be a horrible underuse of the source material.
Looking just at the Space Marines first you have Ultramarines who are basically the by the book chapter and do everything to the letter of the codex. Blood Angels suffer from the Black Rage a taint to their gene seed that means some their their marines go crazy and arebanded together as a crazed close combat unit called the Death Company. Death Angels have the Ravenwing, specialised bikers, speeders and other fast attack units that hunt The Fallen. THey also have badass terminators called Deathwing. Lastly Space Wolves actually can ride giant [censored] wolves.
Orks have simular differences in their structures based on clans. Evil suns are the biggest clan od speed freakz out there and are experts in fast attack, with everyone and their mum roaring around in a trukk or soemthing bigger and more explodey. Goffs are cc specialist although though aren't that special really, like the ultramarines of orks. Bad Moons have their teef grow faster (ork money is their teeth xD) and thus are the richest of all the clans and are renowned for having flash gitz and lots and lots of kustom weapons and pimped out battle wagons. Lastly Deathskull spend most of their time stealing things, mostly guns and tanks from other races which they then improve by making them more ork. Mek's are quite important to them as they tinker with all the stolen goodies.
For Chaos we have Black Legion which is basically the ultramarines of these guys. Chaos undivided and all that. Word bearers like words, specifically words used to summon daemons and monsters of the warp. They are well known for having a large amount of cultists (also known a meat shields). The Iron warriors are big fans of big [censored] guns, seige specialists and masters of heavy weapons. Night Lords have fancy bat wings on their head and are all about terror raids, not sure how that could be translated though.
Eldar clans don't really differ that heavily, they ahve a weird set up already with the Aspect Warriors thing. They've already listed all of them already though so I guess they'll be fine.

Re: Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade
Just from the bits and pieces I've picked up on their forums, it seems like they're going for the minor tweaks concepts. For example, there was mention that the Space Wolves won't have access to Apothecaries, chaplains and definitely not librarians as hero classes as they don't fit into the chapter's lore. Instead they'll have access to the Wolf priest and Long fangs, and I think they were toying around with the concept of Wulfen heroes.Nuff wrote:Back tot he game in question. Not sure to what lengths that the chapter/clan/craftworld/legion will affect everyone, but it'll probably be very minor, like different hero classes, increased unit or vehicle health, speed and damage. That sort of thing.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Re: Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade
Aw, no Guardsman faction. None yet anyways. Well at least the Orks are there.
I'm sure my feelings have already been stated by other people in this thread and on the youtubes. Hopefully they add in the Astra Militarum.
edit: Also,

Re: Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade
Well I'm not sure how they'd add them in here. I can't really imagine the guardsmen would have much of a chance against the other races considering that their usual tactic is flooding the enemy with bodies and armour, which really wouldn't work in a game where player numbers would be about even.Geo_&_Bio wrote:Aw, no Guardsman faction.
As much as I like the Blood Ravens (They're my favourite chapter), I feel like starting off with a few of the original founding chapters is a smarter move. Also not sure if Relic Entertainment owns the Blood Raven's trade mark considering they were originally created for the Dawn of War games.Geo_&_Bio wrote:no Blood Ravens?

Guard could work, people only think of the grunts but you have Storm Troopers (who on the table top suck but in lore are [censored] boss), Rattling snipers and Ogryns. Plus chuck in a Commisar and your golden

Re: Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade
Blood Ravens got an appearance in the Warhammer 40k: Space Marine game towards the end, and that game was made by Relic. The chapter is considered a canon immigrant, i.e. the creators liked it so much they changed the lore to include them. The Rookie wrote:As much as I like the Blood Ravens (They're my favourite chapter), I feel like starting off with a few of the original founding chapters is a smarter move. In a way i'm a little disapointed ,(in my opinion) 40K merits a game like world of tanks (imagine piloting titans and/or baneblades )or planetside 2 you know usual 40k loads of death and destruction . Unless i misread the thread and website it doesn't seem to be like that .

Re: Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade
I almost forgot about this thread. But I agree that I wouldn't mind if it were to play like Planetside. Just massive battles all over the place. And hell, throw in a titan being piloted by several people and the ensuing destruction would be glorious.justanUltramarine wrote:In a way i'm a little disapointed ,(in my opinion) 40K merits a game like world of tanks (imagine piloting titans and/or baneblades )or planetside 2 you know usual 40k loads of death and destruction .
