Magic: The Gathering

#1 Post by Evilsqirrel »

Hello, everyone who just happened to find this thread. This thread is all about a trading card game called Magic: The Gathering.
Have you played? Do you play? Are you playing it right now? Are you interested?

If any of those, feel free to ask a question, post your decklist, discuss cards, question effects, post your possibly NSFW shipfic between Garruk and Jace, or what have you.

Any way, the post that started it all...

Supreme verdict anyone? And you are gonna pass on sphinx? Comon yo~
That, and a bit more Battalion. The Arrest and Cipher stuff is pretty fun too. As for sphinxes, depends on what I can find.
And depends if I have a Notion Thief in hand.
Why are you running black in American Control?
Whaaat~
HE would be running American Control. I would be running BUG control/aggro. Why? because Plasm Capture, that's why.

I must admit, plasm capture is pretty damn sick.
That and the clone/mimic combo...unless they swapped the rules on clone again.
Would love to have a sig but I don't have anything sig worthy to be honest...

Strictly better mana drain. Need i say more?

That also is a very evil combo indeed.

I like it, but at the same time, I don't really care.
I also bought Duels of the Planeswalkers when it first came out on xbox, and I was extremely disappointed by it, primarily for the lack of deck customization, and the no red-green deck.

Duels of the Planeswalkers is a great starting point for learning. Once you get bored of that, you can move on to real MTG at a local game store, where people will most likely be more than willing to help you, or you can go to MTG Online.

It's not that I don't know how to play so much as, I don't really care TO play. and Planeswalkers, as I said, is just disappointing all around to me because of the lack of any real customization... at all...

Okay guys, quick question, I'm planning on running RWU (or American if you really want to persist with that), but I have neither a central mechanic nor gameplay in mind. My current Izzet deck runs on 'throw everything I've got' and 'piss them off so they make mistakes'.
I love being able to keep some measure of control, but I also want to deal heavy damage to them.
Also, it's a Boros/Izzet alliance, not Boros/Azorius or Azorius/Izzet. So mainly red/blue or red/white cards.

What format is this going to be?

Judging by that you are referring to it by guild, I am guessing Standard.

Cards to keep in mind:
Nivmagus Elemental
Ætherize
Turn//Burn
Augur of Bolas
Spark Trooper
Ral Zarek (Obviously)
Blistercoil Weird
Assemble the Legion
Boros Elite
Firemane Avenger
Legion Loyalist
Rubblebelt Maaka

There are a few other things out there that you could use, like Smite or Boros Charm, but those I figure are well-known enough to be noticeable.

Put together that RWU deck yesterday, took it for a test. It went well enough at FNM, five rounds all up. Won two rounds, lost two (technically three) rounds. I refuse to call that third round a loss, [censored] Maze's End deck loaded with damage prevention stopped me from getting enough damage through. Even though I popped the ultimate on BOTH Ral Zareks in the second game. Yeah. We went to time in the second game of the round.
Anyway, deck list.

3X Nivmagus Elemental
3X Boros Charm
3X Legion's Initiative
3X Wojek Halberdier
3X Warmind Infantry
3X Izzet Staticaster
3X Viashino Firstblade
2X Riot Control
3X Counterflux (to be replaced with Render Silent at first chance)
2X Ral Zarek
2X Ascended Lawmage
3X Fluxcharger
2X Spark Trooper
3X Turn/Burn
LAND
2X Steam Vents
2X Sacred Foundry
2X Hallowed Fountain
4X Glacial Fortress
4X Mountain
4X Island
4X Plains

I don't have a sideboard put together YET, but I do know what it'll probably need.
3X Izzet Charm
3X Azorius Charm
3X Ghost Quarter
3X Skullcrack
3X Wear/Tear

Thoughts?

Man, my girlfriend got me into the game about a year ago. Didn't think it was possible for me to get into a hobby more expensive than paintball, either.
Haven't been playing much as of late, firstly due to the fact that not many of my friends play anymore, and secondly the fact that the regulars at the local game shop weird me the hell out.

After a few decks and many sold cards later, I'm runnin' a good ol' Red/White deck, Red being the main element here. I think the only white cards I got are Path to Exile and Ajani Vengeant.
Any trading card game I ever get in to, I tend to favor the classic burn decks, mainly cuz I need something that'll fare against decks I know nothing about, as I don't keep up on the new stuff.

-snip-
May I please ask that you upload your decklist to a website like tappedout.net so I do not have to look up 27 different cards in the gatherer? Not trying to be rude here, but it is a lot of work to search every card that I don't know, and considering that there are over 16,000 unique MTG cards, it is a bit of stretch to memorize them by name.
