Random Story dribble things

#1 Post by alex3192 »

So, I've been gone long enough that I'm suprised that I still remember my account password.

Anyway, recently I've taken to writing random dribbles whenever I'm bored or have writer's block. They're set in a long running universe of mine, and each generally takes part at a different point in the timeline. The 'verse originally started off as something I did for a Nationstates account way back when, but has since ascended into this gigantic mess taking a few things from other 'verses I've had over the years. It's about a nation called Teronia, its people, and the daily battles they fight to survive.

Well, here I go.

----------
Lights in The Sky
(August 3rd, 4E 5185)
Commander Ozark was an impatient being. It was only natural, considering his position. As the command unit of Delta Battalion, Ozark was in charge of managing and commanding Obelisk Class Titans, the primary assault unit of the United Teronian Forces. As the primary focal point of the Hive submind for his battalion, Commander Ozark had to control and contain the impatience inherent within all Titans.

The Titan, a multi-thousand ton behemoth designed to obliterate its foes in close quarters, brutal combat. The Obelisk Class was a prime example of this. Clocking in at over 34,500 tons, this monstrous combat unit came equipped with the most powerful direct fire weapon ever placed on a ground unit. The EMDC, or Electro-Magical Distortion Cannon. A weapon powerful enough to claw at the very fabric of reality in order to destroy its target, the EMDC was normally limited to the largest of space going capital ships. The Obelisk class mounted six of these, and one spinal mounted Flux Cannon to deal with targets even the EMDCs couldn't handle. The Flux Cannon projected a charge of anti-mana at superluminal velocities, and could easily down a target with a single hit. However, it was almost totally immune to shields, requiring the use of EMDCs, or good old fashioned brute force, in order to remove the shielding first.

Commander Ozark settled back into his chair. He and his Battalion had been sitting in defilade along a ridgeline composed of the shattered rubble of what was once New Dixie. There had been reports of CAWS advancing through what was once Austrova, and Delta had been stationed in order to halt their advance. What it really meant was that Delta was stuck sitting here waiting for an enemy that would never show, instead of taking part in the more serious fighting in the south.

This was a mixed blessing as it meant that he and his forces were both safe and extremely bored. Boredom is never a good thing to have in units with enough effective combat power to solo a pre-space nation, and so Ozark was constantly on edge. He adjusted his seat. Some military designer had demanded that the bridge simulation needed to be fully realistic, uncomfortable chairs included. Ozark thought they was full of [censored], but there wasn't much he could do but adjust his chair and be annoyed. Unlike some of his Hivemates, he couldn't stand the raw data outside the simulation, so his options were rather limited.

Commander, hostile contacts detected. Sixteen CAWS plus escorts, moving at 350 km/h.

They must have antigens with them, Ozark decided sourly. Antigens were slow, and while they were usually easy to kill, they would decrease his effective combat power by 12%. This would mean that his Battalion would have to get closer to deal with the harmonics. No matter, Titans have to close in anyway. Nothing will change.

Hivemates, this is Ozark. All Titans equipped with Spreadsaws are to provide covering fire while we advance. Let's give 'em hell!

As one, the Titans of Delta Battalion dropped their stealth and activated Mass Drives. With a bright flash, they were shot forward, warping through the rubble they were using for cover but a moment before. At the same time, thousands of missiles arced across the sky as Spreadsaw missile systems activated. Immediately, a mass of lasers erupted from the surprised enemy units as CIWS systems ripped through allied missiles. The sky was nothing but a wall of white as nuclear charges detonated, and space itself was ripped apart as EMDCs flashed death towards their foes.

Shít, enemy countermeasures are thicker than projected. All units focus fire! Pick them off one at a time!

It was a good day to die.
