A couple of my first drawings in a while, so I'm curious as to what everyone thinks. Sorry if the outline is a bit rough, but I'm not good at inking with nothing but a mouse. I'm pretty happy with the colour of the first one, but then, I always expect the worst (things can only get better that way).
Oh, if one of our many resident artists would be darling enough to suggest a good tablet (preferably not too expensive), then they would have my thanks + gratitude (even if they don't want it).
And so it was that Godhead Pickle Inspector created the universe. He regarded His creation with fondness and saw that it was good.

I like them. Since I'm just a minor artist myself, I couldn't give you any tips on improvement. I generally like to see expressions on their faces, and maybe a little more flow to their movement... but those are things most artists have to figure out (and I still struggle with). Proportions are excellent, in my humble opinion.

as to a tablet.....man, I'm still using a scanner and ms paint!

I like the first one, since the second is kind of incomplete. However, I'm even worse than the above poster at drawing, so I can't give you anything at all in the way of advice. The colours aren't bad for a mouse, though. I might not have noticed had you not pointed it out.

Yays! Hugs for everyone! *hug* *hug*

On a more serious note, facial expressions would be far better, but my skills are somewhat limited in that department (I'm working on it though). As to the flow of movement, it is one of my weak points (2x critical) and I'm still working out my own methods.

Nice to here that my proportions and colouring turned out well (it took bloody forever to get used to drawing digitigrade legs). It'll be a while before I colour anything else though, because I like to wait until I have enough time to do it in one sitting so I don't forget what I was doing.

Here's a new one:

It's still rather rough, but it had occured to me that I had never actual drawn a Kemhuri (My last two drawings are Half-Kemhuri's), so I sketched one out real quick-like.

Wow. I'm guessing this latest one is a male, no? Very well done. Of course, my standards aren't too high, so I'm sure someone's gonna have somethin' to say. Oh well though, yeah?

Loving the detail. He looked a little bottom heavy, and the pose looked stiff. From what I've seen (but little luck pulling off) art looks best if it looks natural, not posed. I think i have one I managed to pull that off with, i'll try to find and post for you.

Really neat drawings you got. (I like the "Sable" one. The cape you drew is really good looking) One thing I've noticed in all of your drawings is that you draw the hands a bit too small. (you'll get better with repeated practice!) Keep drawing! :D

*Hugs for everyones!*

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep working on it. I've got to work all weekend, so nothing for a while (working sucks), but when I'm done my work, I'll be back... with hugs. And chocolate.

The Kemhuri are a species I've been working on for a couple of stories. At the moment, there are three races; the Urai(island) Kemhuri, Haars(mountain) Kemhuri, and the Yunn(river) Kemhuri. The physical differences between the races are rather small, but their fur-pattern makes them easy to differentiate between. Sometime, I'll have to draw out and explain the differences between them.
To note; Morgan (the coloured one) is half Yunn Kemhuri, Sable is half Haars Kemhuri, and Fao is an Urai Kemhuri.

meh seems fine to me, the only real criticism I can give is that in the first one the arms and hands seem a bit odd, I think they're a tad small or something ;) then again this is coming from the guy who sucks at drawing.
Anyways I agree with Wynni on the expression thing but meh pretty good job overall...
-.- I seem evil from that post ah well cya

Edit: -.- I hate grammar

The color in the first one is well done, although, you switch from gradient shading on the shirt to cell shading on the hair which kind of throws me. Otherwise, nice job on the proportions for the most part. My only really complaint is the hands. On the tinny tiny hands! Anatomically speaking the top of the middle finger to the wrist should be the length of the hand and pinky to thumb should be the width. Otherwise, nice job.

The other one is pretty well done, proportions seem to be all right. Obviously it's unfinished, but that's not a problem.

If you're having some problems inking with a mouse then something you might want to try is inking before you scan. That's how I do it. A fun trick to do is to draw the picture in a sky blue or light blue pencil and then go over that with black ink. If you're using Photoshop then you just have to play around with the brightness and contrast settings a bit and your pencil lines should fade away since the black is so much darker. Your scanner should be able to do the same thing if you play around with the settings.

Facial expressions are kind of hard to do. To be honest, the way I got the hang of them was find someone like Zaush, Blotch or Zen on furrafinity and copied, yes copied, their pictures until I figured out how to show certain expressions. It's hard since furries especially those whose faces look more like animals to show expressions people can understand since their so different from a human face. Eventually you figure out how it works and adapt it to your own style.

This particular picture isn't bad. You did quite a nice job actually. It does seem to be a little flat though. His pose isn't particularly dynamic and he feels very stiff. The latter is smoothed out with practice. Try finding some pictures of people online in dynamic or just plain awkward poses and drawing those. It will help your characters feel more fluid and less rigid. For posing, the trick I like to use is think of something really cool looking like your character in mid air jumping backward. Then start with a stick figure drawing of that pose (you'll want to over exaggerate the pose because it will look much less so once you start drawing the character) and use that as a sort of skeleton for your character.

Thanks for the advice *measures hand* Grrr, you're right.
Hands are always giving me trouble, but I'll keep working on it.

I've inked by hand before and it looks good on paper, but when I scan it, it almost always ends up looking like two thin lines with grey in between them. It doesn't sound too bad, but it doesn't look very good at all, even after I've tweaked the settings. I rarely colour by hand, but only because I don't really have anything to colour with and I'm way too cheap to go buy something.

What I find very useful when inking by hand is a 'lightbox' (at least, that's what I call it). Once I've got the sketch done, I clip a piece of paper to it and trace it with pen (great for lined- or grid-paper to plain paper). It also gets hot after a few minutes, so it has the added benefit of drying the ink almost instantly so I don't smudge it.

Anyways, thanks again! *hugs*
