Parts of those actually look good enough to be real photos... That's crazy, great work!

Yeah, that's because those are parts of real photos, that's what photobashing is, so you could say I kinda cheated there :P

I seems so strange to see samouraïs with gunpowder weapons ! Even with bow ! It feels .. unnatural.

That's the thing, most real samurais of feudal japan used bows, the yumi, they were mostly horseback riders and katanas weren't used as often as how hollywood and movies have been depicting, polearms like the naginata were used more in battles

And by the late edo period guns were already widely used, the tanegashima teppo matchlock was something samurais and foot soldiers alike used a lot

haven't gotten any personal ideas I want to draw after the samurai thing, but I thought I'd try to do something and did this quick sketch of silurian and devonian era inspired creatures

Visitors from the deep- another photobash painting i did yesterday

this is the original photo i used and painted on: http://www.whale-world.com/wp-content/u ... d_600.jpg

Three kids and their mother are playing around near a stranded deep sea mollusk on the warm shores of the canadian coasts, they are not afraid since this isn't the first time this occurrence has taken place

Due to the warming of the sea ocean in the late 2030s, sightings of never before seen giant sea creatures surfacing onto land has become more and more common, giant mollusks being the most frequent and harmless out of them. Most find themselves beached in the thousands, often dying on land if not quickly set back into the sea

terrapin soldiers

the unsung siege unit of ancient china, they were deployed exclusively during siege operations that involved high numbers of archers on high walls.
the turtle carapace they wore on their back provide adequate protection against projectiles so all they needed to do was just duck and wait until the arrows stop before charging at the walls again. the unit is mainly comprised of foot soldiers and bombardiers, with the bombardiers being heavily protected as they carry all the explosives to take out the wall archers, often in the form of black powder canons or small catapults used to fling black powder-filled bolas.

the unit was so effective in breaching forts and walls that when the new emperor overthrew the old government and rose to power, he ordered the destruction of all the terrapin armors, no traces were to be left as the emperor doesn't want anyone else to adopt this tactic to overthrow him. all the soldiers of this unit were effectively executed immediately, and lastly, an order was made to hunt down the giant terrapins where this armor came from to extinction and destroy any traces of their existence.
hence any evidence of one of the most formidable units of ancient china was lost through time and never heard of again

a side thing i did in Jakarta while doing the illustration internship, I got the day off so I had some time to paint some stuffs, made this star wars-ish sand nomad dude

Image
Another side thing I did while working on internship illustrations.
The drawing actually started as a joke with Infinite Edge who told me to try to draw a character from the turian race in Mass effect, he made a sketch based on a doodle I made and I can't resist one-upping him and stepping it up into a legit character design

Asking for directions

the little girl and her dog lost in the woods, getting some 'friendly' directions from her new friends on how to get out of the forest
(they're totally not trying to get her even more lost, circling the woods or anything..)
