The Slapdash Showroom

#1 Post by Vintage »

Straying beyond my normal panel shuffles, I wanted to try out some actual drawing. (I feel more comfortable with compositing)
I used my newly-acquired tablet recently and came up with this horrible thing:

-Edit:
http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2014/ ... 8aqo8e.png
[Linking this image because I don't want to look at it anymore]

The first name that came to mind was "Addie", not sure why.
Now I don't know anything about lighting or anatomy, so bear with me if things seem disproportionate or out of place.
Now that I look at it, the hair seems a bit flat...
I aim to make my drawings look a little more....realistic and appealing to the eye.

Oh, and have a random factoid: the total drawing time for this was about two days.

I got two more to add to my emporium!
Both are digitized sketches of Plymouth Harrison, who is owned by a friend of mine. (His DeviantArt)

First one. I didn't know the correct color scheme at the time, so this is how he was colored:

Second one, with correct colors:

Both of these were great amounts of fun to draw

Not bad, but it would be better to make a thread to showcase your own art instead of posting it in someone else's thread ;)

Alright, I've had time to make a couple things!

I updated a banner I made a while back:

And also made another:

But one of my favorite things I've made, to date, is this:

Aaaaand the biggest problem that I've been having is probably quite obvious: lighting and shadows.
This also took be about four days (see below).

I'm still completely new to digital art. So new, in fact, that I'm still wrapped in cellophane.
That being said, digitigrade legs are completely out of the question for now. I'll just be drawing plantigrade for a while.

Might update soon.

Of course, all my banners are free to use.

Oh yes, and this was the original K x N banner:

Alright, time to brush the dust off and take another swing at drawing.
I'm going to start off extremely simple with an arm, instead of tackling large projects head on.
I've got a crude sketch made already, and I'll get to actual lineart tomorrow.

Image

Yep, I've got a ways to go.

I've also changed my character a little (I'm going to be doing this a lot; I don't like the hair too much)

Mediocre lineart is done; I may add color to it later. This was mainly a test to see if I could draw something that looks fairly accurate. (I know this must to absolutely riveting to see, for those of you who do actually look at what I draw).

Something I haven't determined yet is if I should stick with a consistent line weight, or use pressure settings. (At the rate I'm going, consistent looks a lot easier).

Nicely done.

I'd recommend practicing with what you have until you feel comfortable enough to try something new with it.
I've done it a few times before, with various things, and soon find that I get a lot of experience from experimentation when I'm on the verge of "ready to try something new", but that's just me. That does look pretty good though...

Thanks, I'll take you up on that advice. Drawing is something I wish to get better at, considering I haven't really drawn anything for about 3 years. (It also sometimes depends on if I have time or not, but I still try to find time)

A really good way to test proportions and the like is to flip the image to be mirrored. You can see a lot of errors when you do this and often can see the way to fix it. If you flip the image and it still looks normal, then you know you got it right.

The current program that I use (Photoshop Elements 10) doesn't make that too easy to do, unfortunately. PE10 wasn't really designed to even be a program for drawing in my opinion, and it's the only program of the sort that I have. However, I'll try to do that whenever I have to time to draw something.
