I'm going to soapbox a little here, so please be patient.

First of all, I'm going to let this thread stand, because I think it's an amusing concept. It's not really the sort of thread that we heavily encourage here (since we tend to prefer people create threads for their own work), but inviting the community to post their own work into a thread for a sort of a contest-like goal doesn't seem to me to be terribly untoward.

That said, hellacat, this was not a good choice for your first post. This sort of a thread from a completely unknown user sets off warning bells in a lot of forumites. Once we'd gotten to know you and appreciate your sense of humor, a thread like this would likely have not raised eyebrows, but since we don't know you, we don't know what to think. Additionally, I'd have much preferred that you "started" it; that you posted your own "worst fan art ever" to encourage the challenge and explain, visually, what you were after. The point of this board is, after all, exploring creative acts of our users, and just making a thread that says "hey, other people, you should contribute" doesn't actually encourage contribution.

Finally, to actually stand on my soapbox, I've never really understood the insistence that people have on newbie board threads. I never had one because they looked like a pointless way to increase post count when I was a new user, and they still look like that all these years since. I personally find it more enlightening to get to know someone by the posts they make outside the newbie board, when they're expected to be on their best behavior and contribute to the forum, than whatever is posted inside the board, which, let's face it, is pretty inane. When your first post is to open a new thread with nothing but three words and a string of smilies, well...That tells me an awful lot about you. And I hate to say it, but it's not flattering things.

hellacat, please post some terrible fan art you've done yourself in here, and it shouldn't be hard to convince some of our old hands at this game to post some of their own out of their twisted senses of humor. But right now, there's nothing in this thread but an argument, and that sits poorly with me.
