Favorite Intro/Outro from an anime series

#1 Post by Envy661 »

What is your favorite intro or outro from an anime series? Why is it your favorite?

There's not a whole lot going on in this anime board. Let's try to change that a little bit. And hopefully this doesn't get locked despite not having a whole ton of discussion. It's a pretty inactive board otherwise.

Let's also try to make this a little more interesting. No mainstream shows. So no Dragonball Z (I'll allow Dragonball though), No Pokemon, Bleach, Fairy Tail, Naruto, or One Piece. Basically, nothing over 300 episodes long. Movies are also disqualified (Otherwise I would have used the ending credits to Eureka 7: Pocketful of Rainbows myself).

My favorite intro for an anime would have to be OP1 for Love, Chuunibyo, & Other Delusions - Sparkling Daydream by Zao. The song itself is catchy, and the intro itself is a unique take on the 'introduce the characters' intro type. The beginning especially has become something I watch with every episode, while most anime I skip intros altogether because I get bored of them. Prior to this, it was OP4 for Eureka 7 - Saukra by Nirgilis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=935szsi41Vo

As for outros, it would most definitely be ED2 for Pet Girl of Sakurasou - Prime Number by Asuka Okura. The art style, rhythm of the song, visual sync with the sound, and the song itself makes it one of my favorite outros of all time. I even have it on my iPod. (Well, I have a lot of anime music on my iPod, but still). Okay, to be fair, my true favorite outro is Romantic Ageru Yo from the original Dragon Ball series, performed in English by Daphne Gere, but come on. Everyone knows that song. So far, my two favourite openings come from both seasons of Spice and Wolf

Season 1

Season 2 + An English Fan Version

This series tugged at all of my heart strings, and the music is no different. It's just such a beautiful sound.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

My favorite opening would belong to: Cowboy Bebop.

You can't beat a classic. Upbeat and jazzy, it never fails to get me pumped.

My favorite Outro would have to be Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works season two ending, Ring Your Bell. A marvelous song that's hopeful in the face of adversity. The gorgeous animation also delivers some more insight into the characters prior to the events of the Fifth Grail War.

Intro:

One Punch Man, easily:

That final note from the singer gets me every time XP

Outro:

Hmm. I don't usually listen to anime outros, but I do remember Dragonball Z's the best:

Since all the good ones got mentioned (One Punch Man, Cowboy Bebop, DBZ). The only ones left I can think of are these:

And I dont care what you said, the 4Kids One Piece intro is catchy as [censored].

I think our thread creator did say something about nothing over 300 episodes long, although I don't think that should be applied to the first round of English Dubs for One Piece, as it got transferred to Funimation after that and they re-translated everything, the OP and ED sequences, the dialog (including the names of moves), even several episode titles, and that original round of dubbing never even hit the 200s, so it should be okay on a technicality.

Unfortunately I don't have anything to add here. A good OP or ED song is to me a necessity for making a good anime, so if I can't stand to watch them then it lowers my enjoyment of the series (even for the really basic ones like what Digimon Adventure 01 had). Now, if you are talking a series that is long enough to have ones for different seasons, then I will pick favorites, but you just eliminated most of those by saying no series over 300 eps long, and most of what is left I either like all of the OP/ED sequences the same or they fit their particular season better than others would and so I end up liking them in different ways.

So, getting down to what little is left.............I prefer the initial OP for Fullmetal Alchemist (not Brotherhood) over the others, though I'm fairly neutral on the EDs. I vastly prefer the OP for the first half of Persona 4 The Animation over the one for the second half, and the same on the ED. Actually, those are the only two that come to mind with the series length restriction we're under. Maybe I'll remember some others later.

Hmmm......about what I expected when almost half of the questions I'd want to select a few of the answers not a specific one.

Favourite intro would have to be from Arpeggio of Blue Steel, the combination of a great soundtrack, action packed scenes and good art all seal it as a solid intro for me.

Favourite outro is a difficult one as I rarely watch them, let alone rate them. The outro from Leiji Matsumoto's OZMA always gets me when I watch it though. His fantastic art style and the choice of song make it my favourite outro from an anime,

I can't find a video with the outro from this series, but it's beautiful. If you ever watch it, watch the outro,
oh god what do i put here

Any song with Yoko Kanno's name attached to it. Do I even have to say why?
From the Sergals and Sergal Lovers channel of F-List's chat system (Beyond NSFW, by the way): Honey, you ain't the only abnormal sergal in here. We got three pink northerns, a fairy, and a dork with a talking sword.

First of all, I have to preface that I usually judge OPs and EDs by song alone, rather than opening video.

I have a fond spot for all three of Symphogears' Opening Songs, all sung by Nana Mizuki. However, of all of them, I think I find Symphogear GXs' 'Exterminate' to the best [Lyrics Here]. The melody and the vocals blend together amazingly and the use of orchestral instruments is done both well and naturally, making it an overall powerful song.

Of course, that's the show's official opening. The actual opening song for GX, in that it is the song which kicks off the season, is 'RADIANT FORCE'. It goes onto about 5:45 in that video and it is straight up amazing. The timing of spoken lines throughout the song, the sound mixing, the storyboarding of the scene, and lyrics all are some of the best I've ever seen and places it firmly as my favorite opening for a show ever.

A runner up would be Kantai Collection's Miiro/The Color of the Sea by AKINO from bless4 [Lyrics Here].

My favourite ED is Tutti! from Hibike! Euphonium. It's just hilariously well animated and the instrumentals are extremely upbeat and, most importantly, distinctly audible.
