Roll To Dodge (That Alien!) [OOC, 1 slot open!]

#1 Post by Lief »

Hello! I'm aware my last attempt at a Roll to Dodge failed because of my own incompetence (Or, rather, lack of motivation for writing out all of the results because holy moly.) but I'm hoping this time will be different and that you'll all be willing to give me another shot.

Firstly, I'm basing this in the XCOM universe. A rough timeline would be during the invasion, or the events of Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within. If you're unfamiliar with the game, here's the wiki. Just keep in mind this is primarily going to be the events of EU/EW, and not XCOM 2. (Although it could progress that far, theoretically.)

Secondly, I'm going to use a multiple dice system, instead of the standard D6. D100s, D20s, D10s, and possibly D6s will all be in play depending on the situation and the actions taken. While I'm not going to be listing out the basics of every possible roll, higher is always better. As well, I'd like to try a profession system, where your characters have/had a profession before SHTF, and said profession gives hidden bonuses or other effects. Unemployed is an option! (Just not a very good one)

Going from the profession system, sadly you, the players, will not be starting out as XCOM operatives. You're all just civilians that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. In this case, a city currently being terrorized by the aliens. What city? I honestly don't know. Give me some ideas and I'll go from there.

Also since people seem to like giving appearances and the like, and it'll be an easy way to keep track of characters, here's a basic character sheet.

Code: Select all

Appearance: Picture or description, either works.
Name: Duh.
Stats: Stuff like height/weight, age, other important/not important features. Whatever.
Gender: Again, duh.
Profession: What did you do before Aliens showed up at your front door? Your profession indicates what you are good at, or at
least not completely terrible at. Actions relating to your profession, even remotely, may have bonuses applied. Keep that in mind.
Color Claim: Take your speech color before someone else does. Maybe a little quote from your character.
Not a lot to it because there's not a lot of important stuff for characters in a RtD. Also don't cherish your character too much because they could die at the drop of a hat. I'll be trying to keep the lethality to a minimum so people don't get frustrated but it's still XCOM, which is pretty lethal even to the trained soldiers.

Rules! Or maybe guidelines I'm not really sure.
-General forum rules apply.
-General RP rules apply (Except those that don't but most of them do.)
-What I say goes, but feel free to question me or bring up any issues because I'd like this to be enjoyable for all.
-One character per person. Unless that character dies.
-Be smart. Or don't. It's more fun if you aren't but you'll die a lot faster.
-Please list out your actions at the bottom of your post, it makes it easier on me!
-On the same note as above, try not to perform too many actions in one post.
-Teamwork is probably useful for your continued survival. Probably.

I'm going to be limiting the player count to six, not including myself, for this one. It's a good number and shouldn't be too difficult to keep up on for writing out the results. I might end up looking for an assistant, and if I do I might also increase the max player or character count to go along with it.

Appearance: The way he constantly wears his hat down over his face may suggest a certain level of class. To others it may suggest a certain level of blindness.
Name: Gregory Walsh
Stats: 5'10", 32 years old, 176lbs
Gender: Male
Profession: Private Investigator
Color Claim: "Well, there goes the criminal code out the window."

Man, I've been playing the crap out of XCOM: Enemy Within in lead up for XCOM 2.

I'd love to have a go at this, if you'd have me.
Appearance/Stats
• 22 year old white male
• 6”1’ tall
• Dark red short hair with slight stubble
• Slightly cubby, but hey that’s what happens when you don’t exercise regularly before an alien invasion. He still has some natural strength, but he never saw a reason to try and improve himself.

Name: Duncan Forester

Profession: Pathology Nurse.

Quote for the day:This will sting a little.
Since there's a good chance I'll get stepped on by a wondering muteon 3 turns in, I was just hoping to keep it sort and sweet, but I can add more later if you'd like

Edit: I got bored so I tried recreating Duncan using the XCOM character creation tools.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Sign me up. XCOM is one of my favorite games of all time.

EDIT: Kinda weird spending so little time on a CS, but odds are half of us are dead in the first few in-game months.
Appearance: Well built, with the obvious signs of someone physically fit. Black hair kept in a side braid. Jeans and a blouse.
Name: Aliya Darzi
Stats: 5'9", 150 lbs, 35 years old.
Gender: Female
Profession: Architect
Color Claim: "I always told him that I'd tear down those ugly buildings he designed. Never thought I'd do it because I had to throw a grenade at evil ET."

Fawkes and Rookie, you're both good. Duncan seems a bit young for a Pathology Nurse but I'm not entirely sure on what the schooling would entail. I'm also not going to be terribly nitpicky about that kind of stuff with this RP.

Pathology nursing isn't all that specialised. In the simplest way I can put it a pathology nurse is a qualified Division 1 nurse who specialised in blood work after they qualified. They tend to do all the normal stuff, but they're also the ones who run blood samples through screenings, and have a greater knowledge of blood born infections and disease.

In Australia at least you can be fully qualified as a nurse in 3 years 1 year grad year and then you can specialise. So a 22 year old being at this level isn't unheard of.

Short version.

He's a nurse. :potatoes:

Hmmm.... I don't know anything about XCOM, but alien invasion sounds familiar.

So, feel free to turn me down, I won't be upset at all if its too much to catch up on quickly.

Appearance: Heavy-set, short hair, something like R. Lee Ermy with more bulk.
Name: Sylvester Bataglia
Stats: 5'11", 200 lbs, 51 years
Gender: Male
Profession: retired Marine, now drives a School Bus
Color Claim: "Violence is Golden"
Knowledgable but no longer as fit as he once was. Difficult to get along with due to a very un-PC attitude and doubts about his own physical condition (heavy smoker, recently diagnosed with cancer).

EDIT
Oh, approved?
Okay, link me to a quickie explanation of the scenario if you would be so kind.

I'm slightly disappointed that only one person linked a picture for appearance, but otherwise everyone's good to go so far.

EDIT: Still one slot left, but I'll put up a character and we can get this show on the road!

Appearance: Someone who was perhaps slightly more prepared than most.
Name: Cortney Rivecca
Stats: 5'9/1.75M, 130lbs/60kg. 28 years of age. Has a scar running from the left corner of her bottom lip to her chin.
Gender: Female
Profession: Bartender
Color Claim: "Didn't think I'd end up serving bullets instead of drinks!"

The IC should be up either tonight or tomorrow! Just need to figure out a starting city.

EDIT2: And it's up! One post per person per round, please. There's no posting order but you will all have to wait on me to roll your actions and write out the results, unfortunately.

To those that haven't, please edit your post to include the action(s) taken in your post. Makes things easier on me. Put it at the bottom in brackets or something.

To the general populace, I've come down with an upper respiratory infection and can barely type out this post. I think I'll take on that assistant now.

Aye. Work ain't helping much, either.

Promise I'll get the rolls and results done sometime this week! Maybe even before Wednesday, with any luck.

Hey folks! Got the rolls done and am working on results right now (Sort of- Organizing a bunch of information while toying with my options), but I had a question for everyone regarding their characters.

What's your character's general fitness level? It's not terribly important and shouldn't have any drastic effects on anything, but I'd like to know for future reference anyways.

Stronger than average, but certainly not a fit man. His endurance as far as sprinting and high intensity physical activity would often see him burnt out faster than some others.
