Frozen Dead OOC (It's Dead, Jim)

#1 Post by Lief »

IC!

Hello! Decided to make an RP again, the place is a bit dead. Maybe this will liven it up a little. No interest check because I'm lazy.

The Story: The current date is December 3rd, 2020. The time is 9:22AM. On the off-chance that you've been living under a rock and have no idea what's going on, let me fill you in. Approximately six months ago an incident occured at an undisclosed CDC facility in North America. A bioweapon of unknown origins was released. Unofficially, it's been dubbed the "Zombie virus". Some would argue that makes this the zombie apocalypse. Officially, the CDC had no knowledge of it, but a vaccine was available to government officials within a week of the outbreak. Within a month, the US and Canadian militaries had been vaccinated. By this point the bioweapon had spread to the entirety of the United States. Mexico was the first to completely close their borders, and did so more effectively than the US ever did. Nothing got in or out without quadruple-checking everything and having decontamination, as well as quaratines.

Canada went dark 43 days in. Two months in and it became apparent that it wasn't just a bite that could turn you. People who died from unrelated causes came back, too. It had gone airborne. The Mexican government has offered no comment as to why this airborne strain did not reach them. The vaccine had worked, but it wasn't available to the public, and would no longer be effective. What was left of the CDC started work on a cure, and other organizations around the world started as well. As of this time there is no information on the cure, or if it's even possible. All contact was lost with the United States goverment 98 days after initial outbreak. Shortly after, nuclear bombs were dropped on several major cities. The government had nuked its own people. We currently have no further information on what is happening in the outside world.

Everything just went downhill from there. The military formed its own groups and broke apart, maintaining contact only within their units. Some acted as a police force, imposing martial law in certain areas to keep people safe. Some were concerned only for themselves, turning into nothing more than well-equipped thieves and murderers. Your unit is not among either of those. They're the equivalent of a special task force, working for whatever's left of the CDC. You perform either search and rescue or search and destroy missions, rescuing survivors or killing unsavory groups. Among your ranks are members of all branches of the military, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines. There are also a few CIA and FBI agents mixed in. There's even some rumors of a squad from NASA's Emergency Response Team hanging around.

The CDC has built a quarantine and R&D facility around a private airport roughly 50 miles out from
Spoiler!
Unknown, Unknown
, USA. Just far enough out to be safe from wandering hordes, just close enough to be able to walk survivors to and from.

Your task force has managed to secure a large quantity of jetfuel, and "acquired" a C-130J Super Hercules which is barely small enough to use the runway. This is used to ship survivors to quarantine zones outside the country, the only available ones being in Mexico, which your unit has limited contact with. Enough to be able to land and drop off survivors, at least. Your superiors haven't told you much else.

Recently your superiors caught wind of another military unit ransacking the nearby city, and scouts reported a sudden influx of survivors. Two squads were sent out with more ready for rapid deployment if reinforcements are necessary. Both squads have orders to rescue survivors and try to broker peace with the military unit, if peace fails, they are authorized to wipe out the unit.

The Important Stuff: Couldn't sleep last night and came up with an idea for a zombie RP. Sort of. It's more of a "[censored]'s gone to hell" RP with zombies sprinkled on top. Basically, you're supposed to find survivors, not die, and bring them back home safely. Technically, the second squad will be dealing with the other military unit, while the players in the first will be trying to find survivors, but that doesn't mean you won't encounter the other unit. Squad 1 is the player squad, whereas Squad 2 would be NPCs that you aren't likely to encounter, unless of course a bunch of people join. I'm shooting for a squad-size of six but I may up it to 8 or more depending on how many people are interested.

I had originally planned for the survivors to be playable, but in the interest of filling out the task force I decided against it. Sorry.

The task force has been vaccinated, and thus are not infected. If you die, you won't come back. If you get bitten, you will get sick, usually with flu-like symptoms, for about a week or so, but will recover in most cases. You can still die from a bite, however, if you do not properly care for yourself while you're sick, and it is not unheard of for someone to have worse symptoms that can result in death if not treated. On the off-chance you succumb to the illness caused by the bite, you will come back.

As for the zombies, semi-smart runners. They have poor eyesight but are attracted to sound, and have a tendency to group together. Large groups wander, occasionally large distances, and it's not uncommon for them to travel to another city. They know enough to avoid obstacles rather than tripping over them, and are capable of climbing relatively well. They're unable to open doors, though, instead taking to bashing at them or finding another nearby route. For instance, if you run into a store with a big glass window and close the door, they won't try and go through the door, they'll go through the window next to it. Destroy the brain or sever the neck to kill them

As a side thing, I may or may not be looking for someone to take the role of "The Director", someone to spice things up a bit. Haven't really decided yet! Currently, this is me.

The More Important Stuff (Rules):
-What the GM (Me) says, goes.
-Standard RP rules apply. (No metagaming, godmodding, etc etc.)
-Nobody is naturally immune to the virus.
-Humans only, sorry people.
-Romance? Yeah, sure, be all romantic and [censored]. No time for sexings though. (Also the forum doesn't allow that, c'mon now.)
-Be creative! I'm more likely to reward creativity! (I use the term "reward" loosely.)
-Currently only one character allowed, I may allow multiples depending on interest level.

Character Sheet:

Code: Select all

Appearance: You know the drill.
Full Name: Include rank/title, first name, last name.
Nickname: Optional, don't make it something stupid.
Age: Not terribly important, 21+ for Task force.
Gender: Are your dangly bits located down below or up above?
Role: Scout, Sniper, Demolitionist, Medic, etc. Gives me an idea of what your character is supposed to be. Try and keep skills/equipment more or less in line with this to prevent Jacks-of-All-Trades.
Personality: Optional, but I know some people like to have it.
Skills: What you're good at. Try to avoid being a Jack-of-All-Trades, like I mentioned previously.
Weaponry: You can have up to two primary weapons (Rifles, shotguns, LMGs, etc), two secondary weapons (Pistols, revolvers, machinepistols, etc), and two melee weapons (One large, one small). If you have issues with any of this, bring them to my attention please! I can be flexible. Also, please list how much ammunition you're carrying. Keep in mind suppressors = good.
Equipment: This is where you list everything you're carrying that isn't a weapon (Including explosives). If you decided to carry a total of six weapons, you can't carry as much other equipment. This may be a hindrance in the future if you don't have enough food or water for yourself. You can have up to three grenades, mix and match as you please or don't carry any at all. Up to you. P.S. It is Winter, after all, so it's a wee bit nippy out there.
Background: Optional, I don't need your entire history, but you can write it out anyways if you like.
Misc: If there's anything extra that doesn't fit into another category, list it here.
Theme/Speech Color: Musical theme and/or some quote or something. Basically a color claim so nobody uses the color you wanted for speech. For themes, avoid "Epic" music.

I'm interested and will too begin on a CS. Question though can we own small vehicles utilizing electric power? Or make shift weapons of sorts?
As an engineer for war, a thief for hire, and a regular guy, one finds similarities to all these occupations in time.

We'll see if it's going to be any good or not, haha.
Hotep the psychic wrote:I'm interested and will too begin on a CS. Question though can we own small vehicles utilizing electric power? Or make shift weapons of sorts?
Not really, on the former. Your superiors deploy you in whatever vehicles they deem necessary- And have on hand. Most of the time it's HMMVs. I mean, you can have a personal vehicle, but you're almost never going to get to use it. Could make for a good conversation piece if it's nice enough, though.

As for the latter, yeah, within reason sure. Don't want to see any Dead Rising [censored]. (Although some of it is plausible, I guess.)

Approved.
Appearance: Light tan skin, shoulder-length brown hair, hazel eyes, and a height of 5'9 and a half. She has a large tattoo on her right arm, depicting scenes from her favorite game series, about a certain hero clad in green. In the center, facing outward, the famous triangular symbol of the series.
Full Name: Petty Officer First Class Moira Siegfried
Nickname: "Demo", or "Radar"
Age: 29
Gender: Up above. Okay, female, jeez.
Role: Technician/Demolitions
Personality: Moira is somewhat of an adrenaline junkie. She loves to fly. Despite her professional demeanor on the outside, she is relatively childlike. She still greatly enjoys little toys, climbing trees, and even playing games(slightly very obvious, this one). If you can keep up with her, Moira makes a great friend, and an even greater partner(tactical or otherwise). She would do anything to keep a good friendship, and feels empty in lone company.
Skills:
Can't Wait to Bomb Some Dodongos!: Moira likes explosions. Little ones, at least, like those of a firecracker or a hand grenade. She has a great throwing arm, and her aim isn't half bad, too.
Chemistry: Moira makes firecrackers using a chemistry set from the eighth grade. She likes the noisy ones, and makes them using scraps of things collected on outings.
Qualified Pilot:: Having taken many classes in military flight school, she knows her way around the controls of an aircraft, and can fly planes, jets, and helicopters.
Radars are Life: Moira practiced for a long while on the mechanics of the radar, among other things. She is capable of fixing(and sometimes building) intricate machinery, including weapons.

General skills include basic navigation, basic architecture, and an athletic nature.
Weaponry:
12 gauge double barrel shotgun - Moira calls it her "Master Sword", 8 shells on hand
9mm handgun- silenced, 31 rounds on hand(clip in weapon, two extra clips, and one in the chamber)
Antique cavalry dagger - more of a decoration than a defense, but sharpened nonetheless
Equipment:
Jansport backpack
Utility belt containing:
1 firecracker
2 hand grenades
6 shotgun shells
2 extra magazines of 9mm pistol ammo
2 bottles of water
2 small bags of chips
and a tiny Master Sword keychain
Clothing includes:
Gray hoodie
Red tee
Olive cargo fatigues
Steel-toe combat boots
Wool socks
Name tag
and an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist badge under it
Background: Moira was a Petty Officer First Class in the Navy before the outbreak. She'd been in the process of earning her ESWS standing when she came face-to-face with one of the dead on a jog. She incapacitated and hogtied the thing, bringing it back to the infirmary after bolting its mouth shut. Her superiors recommended her for the Surface Warfare Specialist program shortly afterwards. A while later, she found herself with this task force, and surrounded by strangers -- potential friends.
Misc: Moira also enjoys playing Foosball, and will most likely whoop anyone and everyone's butt at it.
Theme/Speech Color: "Who's the champ? Me."

Okay, Wolfgang, just... No. Everything about that sheet is just no. Whatever Fawkes tells you, listen. Your sheet can only improve by doing so.

In other news, a list of accepted characters has been added to the bottom of the first post.

That's... Better, I guess, but still no. There's still a lot of issues. I'll edit this post with more details tomorrow.

EDIT: Okay, so, I'm sorry to say that I won't be allowing you to join Wolfgang. I was giving you a chance, and you did improve between the first and second versions of your sheet, and I believe you can improve further, but I don't think this is really an RP for you.

I believe Fawkes was still trying to help you develop the sheet further, you could ask him if he'd be willing to continue so that you can get some more practice before another RP pops up that catches your attention.

Accepted and ready to deploy.
Appearance:This be him.

Full name: Staff Sergeant Jeong Grosvenor

Nickname: “Cy”(Pronounced “sI”). His nickname is a military nickname, shortened from its original meaning and given for the most stupid reasons you could ever conceive. He was given that title as a shortened version of cyclops as some of his buddies were too lazy to pronounce the entire word. He actually received “Cyclops” prior to the accident, when he stated that he was a bigger fan of Cyclops of the X-men rather than the more well beloved Wolverine. The name unfortunately was revived and stuck after he was stuck by a exploding trap, screwing up his face and ruined one of his eyes. Luckily, “Shades” is also an alternative as he wears prescribed shades for his slightly ruined eye.

Age: 36

Gender: Male

Role: Sniper

Personality: He is an on/off introvert/extrovert, though naturally inclined towards being an introvert. He doesn't tend to be the starter of conversations, but when he talks, he opens up pretty wide. He doesn't hide his deformed face, nor does he mind that others are curious about it. He will blow off intentional insults as simply too weak to truly compare against him.

Skills:

Kansas Hunter: When he was sent to Kansas for his duty station, he, like many incredibly bored comrades, became really good at hunting and fishing. He hunts whenever he gets the opportunity to and this means he is pretty good at both a rifle and a bow as bow hunting is all year round.

Kentucky Windage: Living in such a windy state can screw with rounds going in incredibly long distances. Having need to adjust in according to the ever-changing and yet ever present wind, he got pretty good at manipulating his sight picture to get results.

Trapper: Associated with his hunting ability, the necessity to keep his back protected, and the fact that he needs to slow down his frontal opponents, he is pretty good at setting up devious traps: some that slow or halt a person or animal, and some that outright inflict serious harm.

Weaponry:

Primary:
1.PSG 1, manufactured by H&K, with an additional suppressor to mask the noise.

2.A Modern compound bow which he uses for hunting or for when he is in a relative bind with some zambles.

Secondary:

1.His 45 ACP pistol with an additional suppressor for when he needs to get out of a bind in close quarters.

2.His Rapier, for that bind though, also he believes thrusting attacks and reach are far more suited to kill zombies than hacking and slashing.

Equipment:
Worn equipment:
This land is peaceful, Its inhabitants kind. It's a big ol' winter ghillie suit. Keeps him hidden in winter areas as he blends into the environment.

Stuff that he is carrying:
1.Four 20-rounds magazines of 7.62mm rounds for the PSG 1
2.Five 9-rounds magazines of .45 ACP rounds for the pistol
3.A 30 arrow quiver for his bow and a 15 arrow quiver for zombie arrows(in case of infections)
4.A rapier sheath, padded with leather to keep it from clanging
5.An Individual First Aid Kit(also known as an IFAK) which is meant for him and him alone.
6.Camelback with 3/4ths full on water
7.Zippo lighter
8.A swiss army knife
9.three extra pairs of socks
10.and finally two clif bars

Background: His father was an American soldier infantryman that was stationed in Korea and, like many dumb and desperate privates seeking their way out of the barracks, married a local Korean girl. This is usually known as the military trap marriage, where locals would marry a military person and may divorce in order to get some money. Luckily for him, the soldier and the Korean girl married for love and grew very well with each other. Jeong was born in Korea and was asked to be given a Korean name by the wife, seeing how he has a European surname. His father was unfortunate enough to be a part of the endless cycle of Korea, Kansas, Korea trap, meaning that Jeong's entire childhood and school years consisted of entirely moving between Kansas and Korea. Although his mother was very strict with schoolwork and learning, his father was a country bumpkin, meaning that when Jeong was done with his mother's schoolwork, he was allowed to go out hunting with his father. When he became the age of 18, he, against his mother's wishes in using his father's GI bill to go to college, joined the Army as an infantryman.

He was able to do 6 in 6, getting his E-6 within 6 years. He was then sent to sniper school, where he graduated pretty well in the course, received his sniper's badge, and was assigned to a sniper unit. During one of his tours overseas, he was on a mission. Unfortunately when scouting the area for a good sniping location, he and his buddy got messed up by an IED: Jeong got his head a bit scrambled but his buddy got the worst of his. Although the damage wasn't too terribly bad and though he persisted to keep staying in the military as his good eye was still 100 % intact, they denied him of re-entry because of his wounds. However, when the zombie plague hit and the need for more security and soldiers went up, they allowed him reentry through a waver. If he lives, then he provides more security towards the nation, if he dies then that is one less soldier they have to pay in both basic and medical. As time went on his services shifted towards the CDC with the rest of the survivors and now provides sniper fire for his team.

Misc: His eye right eye is only partially damage, it is far more sensitive to light than it previously do to Iris damage and is no longer 20-20. Other then that, with some prescribed shades, he can see well out of them. He is a lefty, so his rifling abilities are unhindered by his right eye, though it would help him to have points of references, via a spotter or scout to help him snipe effectively.

He is in pain, but he shrugs it off. When trying to get back into the military, he learned to push through his newly acquired pain without the need for morphine or other sedative drugs. It was said to him that morphine and discipline within infantryman's line of work tends to not be a compatible relationship, which is why they were going to medically chapter him out. He went out of his way to end the morphine addiction and endure the pain. Luckily for him, they decided to employ him once more in order to fight the plague.

Lastly, he is very fond of books. On his off time, he is probably finding something to read.

Theme/Speech color: One shot, One kill
The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

Reusing some part of my old character sheet. XD
Appearance:He has brown hair and a rather wolfish face, or some who are less kind may refer to 'feral'. He has a quite normal build, not as rugged as bodybuilders but not as skinny as most recruits. Has a 6' height, and always wearing a pair of fake wolf ears(Nobody knows why) and a pair of tactical goggles hangs from his neck. He also has heterochromia, so one of his eyes is blue and the other is brown.
Full Name: Gunnery Sergeant Lance Wolfe
Nickname: Wolfie
Age: 35
Gender: M
Role: Assault/Medic
Personality: Lance is mostly a silent person, mostly due to his speech impairment and his tendency to work alone. However, once he warms up towards you, he will talk more freely. But still it is mostly cluttered. He is also pretty calm under pressure, however. Lance also has the queer quirk of sometimes speaking unintelligible or incomprehensible words, this set him apart from some others. He sometimes also does random erratic behaviors.
Skills:
Sharpshooter: Lance is able to shoot accurately with any rifles, making him a valuable asset in fighting. He is able to compensate usually for terrain and weather.
Fast and Furious: Lance is able to drive most civilian and military land vehicles. He is also able to navigate through rough terrains as well.
Stamina Freak: Lance has great stamina which allows him to carry more items and supplies than normal troopers. He is also able to run long distances as well.
First Aid: Lance is proficient in first-aid, and although he has not tried any before, he was trained in it though.
Tech Guy: Lance was an avid fan of computers and had studied much about it before enlisting. He had also read a few books about it when he was a soldier and joined a course in his free time. So he is familiar with most computer systems and was able to hack in most civilian computers.
Weaponry:
Mk 18 Mod 0 CQBR with night vision AN/PVS-22 and Night force NXS scope, 30 rounds per clip
H&K MP7A1 submachine guns with detachable flash suppressor and silencers, equipped with Surefire torches and stock Zeiss RSA Reflex Red-Dot Sight, 30 rounds per clip

Helmet and headlamp(Worn only in missions)

Background: Lance was the CO of a team in the Marine Corps FORECON. In the initial outbreak, his team was deployed to destroy the facility of a group of raiders. Lance was shot in the head by a sniper but fortunately the bullet was stopped by his helmet. Nevertheless, he was still shot and he blacked out from the impact and his teammates left him in a safe place after attempting first aid on him. Unfortunately, the team was wiped out when they were ambushed by the raiders, but the building blew up, killing all of the raiders. Lance woke up later and he crawled back to the team's Humvee, and he radioed the backup team to move in. However, the backup team got caught in a minefield and lost contact. Lance survived by himself by scavenging foodstuff from the raider's base(As the Humvee's axis was destroyed by a stray shot), and dealing with the occasional stragglers of the raiders. It was a while before he got a very severe fever, but at that time a rescue convoy receive Lance's signal(Which he kept on looping in the Humvee's radio)and went to rescue him.
He went into a coma later when he returned. When he woke up, as he suffered from head trauma, further worsened by the high fever, he has developed a difficulty in speech(Stuttering and slurring of words) There has also been some concerns about his mental stability, but he passed the psych test so he was back in active duty. Due to the loss of his squad, he was then reassigned to the CDC task force.
Misc: Lance is an avid gamer and reader, and could always seen reading ebooks or playing games on his tablet when in base. He reads a real book when on missions.

Maybe I should've posted something earlier, but signups are closed! If you've already informed me you're planning on joining, no worries! I've still got space for you!

Don't worry, Transient, I won't hold it against you since I forgot to edit the thread.

However, acceptance is pending based on an ongoing investigation. (Read: I'm tired and am going to bed, but I'll tell you what needs fixing later.)
