A mug is a sort of synonym for a beer stein, but can be used for other things.

Still inst a beer mug a bit of a overkill for soft drinks? I had a couple of friend who would scold you i you were not using and appropriate glass for you beverage. I imagine they would kill me if they ever saw me drinking a good old fashioned soda out of a beer mug.

It's a mug for Root Beer, an old A&W mug to be exact
