All we're missing now is the massive hurricane making it's way up to Canada. We've got firenados, pandemic, Trump, Beirut explosion, massive wildfires, insane heat... And that's just off the top of my head.

I've had enough of this year. It sucks.

It's just the prelude to 2021.
If it moves but shouldn't: Duct tape. If it doesn't move but should: WD-40. With a hammer everything fits, and if it still doesn't fit: bigger hammer. If it can't be fixed with a hammer it's an electrical problem.

Alright, place your bets! What's the craziest thing that will happen this year, before things start getting better?

Well we already have had disease, varied natural disasters, we had an earthquake here in mexico a couple weeks ago, Civil unrest, economic upheaval. The only thing missing is some sort of armed conflict but seems that was delayed for a different year.
So I am not sur what else could 2020 throw at us

The average human is stupid. And keep in mind that's just an average, and smarter people tend to abuse the stupid for their own profit.

Measuring intelligence is and will always be a problem. Even then it seems we are slowly getting smarter.

I do agree we are on average quite stupid but I also think there is not that much variance, meaning there is really not that many smarter people nor more idiotic fellows around.

Intelligence seems to be a fluid, and cannot be measured completely.

EXAMPLES:

Punkin Chunkin team, 3 physicists and a farmer (probably botched the name). The "smart" people create a perfect design based on math and theory. They show it to the farmer, who changes almost everything, slightly, and it works perfectly as intended.

Auto manufacturing processes over the years have introduced eye-catching designs, complex computerized learning and adaptation, advanced sensors and control systems... But they're designed to be replaced, not repaired; manufactured, not disassembled. As such, they're basically a Chinese Puzzle Box to work on, regardless of skill.

Book smarts vs Street smarts, as the saying goes. Anyone raised on common sense will see the obvious solutions, and the problems therein, even if they don't understand the concepts, whereas people who studied said concepts would know how it worked and why, but would not have a clue what to do if something went even slightly awry.

Intelligence is indeed very hard to measure, and IQ as well as standardized test of any form have been recently criticized for being a bit biased in favor of certain groups, generally affluent white people.

Alas we have not come up with anything better yet and even the definition of intelligence is still debated among philosophers. So we have to make do with what we have.
