Does Twokinds have a sister comic?

#1 Post by Quentarus »

When I ask this I am saying did the author of Twokinds; Tom allow another individual to use Twokinds' assets and character design for another person's comic?

This individual is using advertising styles similar to how Tom does it, and even his title does a gradient from orange to a shade of sky blue like Twokinds' logo.

Some of the art I accidentally stumbled upon I genuinely mistaken as TK fan art. Even the website takes on a similar style as TK's comic site. even the character page is a literal copy and paste.

even though I am an avid fan of the Twokinds comic, I am out of the loop of the community so I am not aware if this is a sister comic, or if this is a genuine rip off.

Believe me, the community is so aware that Yash has set about locking these topics. Tom knows and we all know, but we mostly ignore it. It's better that way.

... Although the recent frequency in these topics makes me wonder if the FAQ should acknowledge Leoian in some fashion, just so people know that he isn't an issue.

K, I wasn't certain. Honestly as a personal content creator, it gets under my skin more than it should. I wasn't aware either. I won't add to this thread to cause any issue.

Oh yeah, I hear you. It's a nonissue for Twokinds nowadays though, thank goodness.

Honestly, if it were me, and the individual were copying the material I have as concept for my novel. I would flip my lid. Tom has more humility than I ever would.

I think leoian would prefer to consider it an homage. Many of the character designs are rather more cribbed from Twokinds than is comfortable, but to my knowledge leoian is working very hard to keep the characters distinct in personality, voice, and behavior; particularly when the appearances are similar. An awful lot of the similarity is due to the fact that leoian learned to draw here, developing his style directly from experience with Twokinds and Tom's work, and I believe the similarity between Tom's early art and leoian's art makes people tend to feel more uncomfortable with Project 2nd than they would if leoian had developed an artistic style completely distinct from Tom's stylings.

In any event, everyone here, including Tom, is very well aware of Project 2nd. We appreciate your concerns, but Tom evidently does not share them; because he's known about Project 2nd from, as far as I could guess, the very beginning. (leoian was once a member of this community; he is no longer for reasons unrelated to Project 2nd.) I suspect that Tom simply isn't concerned: he knows his craft and he's continually improving himself; what does he have to worry about with leoian and Project 2nd? Who will get them confused? If leoian draws like Tom used to, and also has a story with a brown-haired tiger girl, does that really hurt Twokinds? It'd probably be a different situation if Project 2nd was clearly trying to hurt, or even make a statement about, Twokinds, but that is obviously not the case -- this is more an instance of imitation being the sincerest form of flattery.

I apologize for asking rhetorical questions and not providing a place to give an answer, but Myperson is correct: we have seen something like this thread many times, and likely will continue to see threads like it for some time to come. There's little to say that has not already been said. But thank you for keeping Tom's interests dear to your heart. I know he appreciates the loyalty of his readers.
