It is not a very complex story:
One day i was idly watching youtube videos, some gameplay videos that i usually watch. But I started to follow recommended videos, which is sometimes not such a good idea, you know youtube has some very weird stuff, in any case, about 10 videos later i ended in the at twokinds stream channel.
Youtube recommendation algorithm is very weird since i was not really looking into anything related. But was surprised by the art, at first i thougth, oh just another furry artist, then i realized it is a webcomic.
I am not very into webcomics, i follow a couple back in the early 2000's but both ended unceremoniously after a few years when the authors ran out of ideas or decided to do something else with their lives. (can't blame them though, hard to make a living doing it)
But then i saw twokinds was active and going for 14 YEARS. I was 10 when the comic started and it is still going for crying out loud!
"Either this guy is obssed or this is very good" -I thought
So i began to read it from the beginning. Despite the drop in quality i found the premise as novel and interesting. 4 days later and over 1000 comic pages later I am here. Complaining about the forum UI...

Stumbled in here completely by accident.
Had no idea what a furry was.
Started reading from the beginning...

Well, now I know what a furry is. :raine:

Nice work, Tom.
Keep it up.

It was mentioned in a comment on A Redtail's Dream, as those two were constantly battling it out for top spot on TopWebComics (with TwoKinds usually winning).

I left a comment saying that it seemed like a comic with typical furry tropes and I didn't much like it. Then the author of A Redtail's Dream also replied saying that she thought it was quite good.

After a while, I took a second look at it and ended up reading through the archive. I still think it has a lot of tropes, but it also has surprising depths (as in, the author has a mind of his own, and things don't always go in the direction one might expect) and is quite well made.

That's basically it.

I actually found TwoKinds over Thanksgiving break. I was browsing the subreddit r/yiffcomics looking for you know what, when I found a post of someone looking for a longer comic. Someone had commented with a link to TwoKinds. It took me a second to realize it was not the type of comic I was originally looking for. But that didn't matter, I was already hooked. I stayed up until 5 that night just reading. I spent the free time I had reading the comics, and finished last Sunday, just in time for the latest comic. I just got so hooked into the characters and their interactions, I was addicted to being enveloped into these amazing characters and story. This is my first webcomic ever, and I'm happy it was, TwoKinds is amazing. I'm so excited for the next comics to come.

As a side note: Isn't it crazy how we're all replying to a thread this old? Pretty amazing how strong of a base Tom has managed to create after all these years

"How did you find twokinds" from a non-furry perspective

#81 Post by Psy »

Disclosure in case you're blind and can't read titles: I am still claiming to not be a furry after reading this entire comic. Yes, I know, shut up.

Now that we got that out of the way, how did I find twokinds?

Well, after reading the entire thing in minimal amounts of time and only completing just a few minutes ago, I'll be honest. I liked it a lot more then I thought I would. Now you may ask, "How the heck did you even find this comic if you are not a furry?" And to that I say, I couldn't tell you if I tried. It was a weird series of events. you may also be asking, "Why did you keep reading past like the first two pages when you knew what you were getting into?" I also don't know the answer to this, other then it was originally for the meme.
Now, the beginning is definitely rough, and there are many parts of the comic that I personally would have left out, but once you get past that, It's actually a pretty fun read. I can honestly say that I enjoyed myself. I am not too prideful in my "non furry-ness" to say that the art (well, the later art) is rather stunning. I think the comic had likable characters, a compelling plot, (again, once you get past the beginning), and a really nice pacing to it, especially for a comic. (once again— yeah you know the drill)
One thing I must note, however, is that this comic has been going on for almost as long as my life, and that's strange to me. I read the entire thing in definitely not that amount of time, and I can't imagine reading it that sparsely. It strange because the comic doesn't have a "this has been going on for 16 years" vibe. Idk, it just feels like not a lot happened to really progress the story. (relatively speaking)

Anyways, yeah. I liked it. Its definitely surprised me. Could use less sexual undertones I guess is my only real criticism. Also redrawing/redesigning the beginning parts would be nice, even if unrealistic.

I have no clue if I made any sense, but I'm too lazy to proofread so... deal with it I guess.

Hey it's all cool, I've been a fan of TwoKinds for years and I'm not a furry. :)
I actually have no idea how I found TwoKinds. I honestly can't remember. It was a long time ago... around 2008. I think maybe I was looking up various webcomics and there was an ad for it or a link to it from another webcomic? Who knows. Either way, I read it and really really enjoyed it!

Yeah, I feel like that's something that affects a lot of this "publish one chapter/page at a time" media. You start with only a vague idea of where you're going, and once you get into it you start taking your characters and story in a different direction, but instead of being able to go back and rewrite your "first draft" earlier pages, you've already published them so it's too late. In my ideal world, now that Tom has a much much better idea of all the characters and plot and lore of his world, I kind of wish he could go back and rewrite the whole story from the beginning to make it all more consistent, both logically and thematically. Turn the "first draft" into a final copy. But yeah, I know that this would be a huuuuuuuuuuge amount of time and effort on his part, so I'm not holding my breath :P.

I randomly kept seeing pages of it across the net(...porn sites cough cough) but had no idea what it was I had to google search the characters names to find it. That was 10 Years ago!! I then spent the next two maybe 3 days binge reading this comic. When i got to the end i started to lurk in the forums to see how often it was update. When i found out it has already been going for several years at that point i knew it was going to conclude any time soon, i never dreamed that a decade later i would still be here reading it.

About a week after I finished the comic and wanting more I ventured into the forums, i was about as green to the internet as they came. It was my first real forum and i had no clue what a furry was. For the next 3 years I think i lived on here getting to know people as far away and Israeli and California (I'm in the UK). I saw many a sunrise on a school night after being on the RP board all night.

Life then caught up with me and it took a fair few year for me to come to the comminuty but for the most part I have kept up with the comic every week since!

:Maddie: I actually found two kinds because my brother recommended to me in like 2011 and I was like 12 at the time so read until I was caught up in like a day, and looooved the story. I just didn’t like the idea of waiting for them and then I completely forgot about it until like two weeks ago, and I was like omg yes I can catch up and see everything that’s happened and so I started from the beginning and got caught up again and was like wow eight years of my life was like a month in the comic but hey I still loved all of it!

HOLD UP! I NEVER TOLD THE STORY IN THIS TOPIC ???
I spent nights being up and looking at furry and other random artworks on DeviantArt. And I kept comming across this Tiger. This tiger had the same art style. So I thought " this is neat. theres even some small comics" and welp, I was happy I took that extra click to look up the profile wich made the art. I found the webpage wich the comic was hosted at and I turned in to a furry for almost a decade. Thats my story of how I found the amazing comic of Twokinds ten years ago! :kathrin:
Been following it almost every week.
The communist part is a inside-joke with friends. :kathrin:

I actually found Twokinds twice... kinda

The first time happened around 5~4 years before the second time. Based completely on my memory the year was 2013 or 2014 and I have no idea what I searched up but I'm going to assume I forgot to add a space in my search and found the amazingness that is, this comic. I don't remember which page was the most recently updated at the time but I remember reading up to, at least a little before or up to the first hotel scene. At the time I, myself didn't think much of it but looking back, I'm surprised how much flew over my head and so glad that it did, I was... young in fact I don't think I ever stopped to think, why are they naked. I just accepted that they were and read the story however a few minutes later my mom came into the room and I had at least enough sense to know mom + nude animal people = really awkward and embarrassing situation so I closed the tab and tried to look for it again but being extremely young did not know how to reopen closed tabs and was sad for about five minutes that I couldn't find it, for the next 5 years anyway...
(this is all from my memory and very well could be off, but the things I know for sure that young-me remembered was, blue-haired guy wakes up in forest, has no memories, finds tiger girl, finds other animal-human. [I didn't know what furries were] and oh no mom's opening the door and there's a tiger lady on my screen with no clothes.)

2018, 5 years later..

I'm watching a thing on youtube and on the sidebar I see a comic-dub for a series I've never seen before Twokinds. I've had a bad experience with comic dub voice actors and didn't wanna find out if this was going to be another letdown that might ruin accidentally ruin a good series for me. So I pause the video and click the URL to the original source and that's when I got hit by the biggest truck on memory lane. The very few things that I remembered from 5 years rushed at my head so fast I just stared at my phone for 5 minutes with my mouth open, trying to juggle reading the comic, my thoughts, and what I should do next.

I read for 10~12 hours the next day

[If you're reading this and you didn't skip at all, wow. thanks, This is my first post on any forum. ever. :D ]
Wow these things are way harder to come up with than you'd think. Or is that just me?

Welcome! Don't drink the water. :) But feel free to stick around, new faces are always welcome.

I found Twokinds through a.. less-than-work-safe search, and found it posted where it was not supposed to be. Thinking I'd found a lost goldmine, I saved every page in a Word document by typing the URL in manually where I found the pages online. I googled the name after I reached the end of that archive, read the rest and found Natani and his glorious abs right after the ship fire. Changed my life, I kid you not.

Honestly they way I found Twokinds is a tad sad. I was browsing the furry porn sites when a certain comic came up (you all know the one involving Zen and Raine). Anyways I noticed one of the tags on it was “two kinds” and I was like “what now?”. The whole porn went over my head, what with Zen going on about “wolf, human, whatever you are” and Sythe chilling with “Maren and Karen” in the tent. After reading it 3 times in 2 days, I got fed up with being confused and just googled “two kinds”, and lo and behold, Tom’s great SEO brought me here. Well, keenspot, actually. The first page was where Sythe and Maren talk in the pool during the beach party, but I totally thought that Team B was the main plot. About 6 seconds later I hit the archives, looking for anything involving Raine (the main character in my mind). After that, I went back to the archives, totally thinking that Twokinds was a NSFW comic and I was missing all the good stuff. Eventually I found “things are revealed about Natani. Two things” and immediately discovered Natani was a girl. I later bounced over to “wanna touch ‘em?”, and after wondering who the heck that grey cat was in the previous page, I read through it, discovering the best ship in Twokinds. After that I got bored of it and left it for a few days. A while later I felt a nagging to go read it again, so I did. I read from “Wolf assassins attack!” Clear through to the beach party in 4 hours flat. No regrets. I read all of 0 webcomics before Twokinds, but I was hooked. A while later I discovered Freefall through Twokinds, again starting to read out of order before kicking myself and grinding out the entire thing over the course of the week. I can’t say either is my favourite, because while Twokinds is miles ahead of Freefall in story and character development, Freefall is slightly funnier, and is some of the finest sci-fi I’ve ever seen.

Anyways, that’s how I found Twokinds all of 7 months ago.

Interesting. Despite not knowing exactly what comic, nor how to search for it, I think i remember people mentioning it something similar in the past. That makes me wonder how many people have found Twokinds thorught adjacent media, like fan-comics and fan-fiction pornographic or otherwise.
And on the other end of the spectrum i wonder how many people have found the comic when mistyping stuff of google like: two kinds of bolts. Or via looking for short story "Two kinds" by amy tan. I imagine it would be fun if your professor assigned it as a reading for homework and then you end up in Tom's comic.

It is definitely an interesting fan base, furry or no.

Just to be clear, I’m not a furry nor do ever intend to be one. I do know a furry. She hates my guts because I’m a Christian.

I’d be interested in hearing how DarthKeidran discovered Twokinds, what with him being a Mormon and Twokinds having some... debatable content.
