A job where it is possible to lose money, not because of your failings, but of those of your customers, is just bull.. I'd hate to be in your position, and I think that its good that your going to quit it! you know once your back up plan works out.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Actually, it is, but our mall is kind of fencing it between failure and success. They changed the name from Northway to "Shoppes at Woodridge" in some bid to gain customers, but Marshfield hated the change and business only went down more. JCPenney and Younkers are really the only two big stores there that make a profit. The other ones are small corner stores that don't do full-time, because they generally close at five on weekends and nine on weekdays. *shrug*Verilidaine wrote: That sucks about Book World. Is the JC Penny in a mall? Try going around the stores there and asking for a job, and then you could even try to line up hours so as to avoid a lot of commuting.
I've applied for an open management position at Family Video in the meantime, so tomorrow I'll be taking a test there to see how well I handle tasks at a movie store. Should be easy. The hitch is that the manager there knows I worked at Hollywood, and while he says there's no conflict of interest, I can't tell if he's humoring me or is actually considering me for the position. Since none of the other employees at Hollywood got hired there, I can safely assume he's not convinced. Still, I'm taking a shot at it. It's the only video store in our town now, they're going to be doing very well for themselves and from what I understand corporate at Family Video is a lot more realistic than my old job. So hopefully I can grab this full-time position while it's there.
Today I called in sick to work so I could go job hunting, and I wasn't 100% dishonest about illness. All the stress is catching up to me and I'm not sleeping well, but on top of that I'm getting vicious stomach cramps at the worst times. I've stressed myself sick before during college, so I already know I'm not going to be up for work tomorrow. *shrug* Day off after that, too, so why not go job hunting in the meantime.

Sweet Jeezus, that's terrible! Who the hell treats their own employees like that?
Good luck, seriously. It sounds to me the sooner you get out of there, the better.

I've been wondering about that myself ever since I heard about this. I thought, legally, a job is required to give certain amenities if it's going to be hiring full-time workers? The Jasenator wrote:Wow. You don't get to take breaks? Surely that is some kind of illegal.
Re: Job Hunting Again... Kind Of
Actually, the Department of Labor does not have any regulations concerning lunches or breaks, and leaves it up to the states. Unfortunately, only a few states have their own regulations, Texas not being one of them. So, if you work in Texas (and most states, actually) it's perfectly legal to work you all day long with no breaks whatsoever.

The unions in Australia would revolt if anyone thought about implementing that for full time employees.

The thing is that is for just non-union companies. Union forces certainly regulate their own breaks. The Jasenator wrote:Woah seriously? I know because I worked in a union-owned company for 2 years.
Re: Job Hunting Again... Kind Of
Well companies are suppost to have their own rules, for most of the US it's a 15 minute every 4 hours (or one 30 for eight hours) however this is more of an guildline as you're also suppost to go off the clock which means people who work by the hour with lost some money, and of course people under 18 are by law must take breaks. The Jasenator wrote:Woah seriously? Crappy job means its time to leave. Thats the way I see it. Although I never heard of something like this around here, one of our local gas station kept getting robbed at least once a day and they never took it out of the employees paycheck.

Man, that must suck. Good luck finding a better job, and I hope you find a nice full-time one if you can. Kinda glad I work for family, there aren't and hash working conditions, aside from the weather.

Well, I have an interview tomorrow for a management position, so hopefully I'm able to land the job. Bought myself a new suit since I'm expected to wear business attire (forgot my old suit was a wedding tuxedo, heh), so I'm already plugging over a hundred dollars into this thing. ><

Fast in a suit? That should do ya pretty well if my minds eye is working. Then again the only Fast I have seen was wearing a mspaint pirate hat.....FastChapter wrote:Well, I have an interview tomorrow for a management position, so hopefully I'm able to land the job.
