A desktop mod thingy I don't know what its called...

#1 Post by FurryForlife »

As the title suggest, I don't know what the name of what I'm looking for is. Basically, I've seen on my friend's computer a... skin.. over their desktop that acts like a planner. Reminds appointments, birthdays, lets me schedule things, lets me make lists of things to do... But, as I've said before, I have no clue what it is called or where to get one. I would appreciate help on this front.

What like the widget bar on Windows Vista/7 that they no longer support? I know there were several different widgets you could get to do that... but you can't get them anymore unless there's some outside source to get them... and i'm sure there is. Windows does have a built in scheduler and stuff, but I can't find it right now for some reason. You can set alarms and stuff with it. And I think you might be able to setup Rainmeter to do that.

The most popular thing like you described would be a custom rainmeter.

You can find skins for it on deviantart and here.

Do you know if you can have your normal desktops in the background still?

All Rainmeter does is add overlays to your desktop. Icons and backgrounds stay the same. The only reason most pictures you see change that is because people like to replace the typical desktop with it and make it look more integrated. Which is cool and all but... too time consuming for me.

You've successfully convinced me to download RainMeter. Don't know exactly what I'm going to do with it though, apart from replacing the sidebar. Gonna look for some widgets. Any recommendations?

It wants me to download some C++ thingy and I have no clue where to get that. I suppose I could google it.

It wanted you to download something? You sure you're downloading the right thing?

If there really is a thing it needs, then I already had it before installing, so it probably shouldn't be an Issue to install.
