Does anyone else know about or is in the beta?
Personally, I'm not, but managed to get Steam working anyway... on my Debian Sid amd64 system running KDE. So, pretty darn far from the i386 Ubuntu running Unity that they were aiming for.

Re: Steam for Linux Beta!
Yes, I know of this. I am not part of it for I don't have linux. However, Steam is making games for linux. One game in particular: Interstellar Marines. It is going to be made for linux when it is finally released. Steam plans on going into this OS with the hopes that the wonderful opensource community will keep the ideals for gaming with no DRM and other such stupidity. That and I think it's also to spite Microsoft for that whole 8 windows store thing. I am not a linux fan, but I am excited for the future in this respect.

Man can live 30 days without food, 4 days without water, and 8 minutes without air. But man cannot live a single second without hope.

I know about it and I follow all the news about it. Unfortunately I'm not in beta and because TF2 is not working for non-beta accounts, I haven't tried to install it yet. Also I'm not running ubuntu (I use openSUSE).

Install it anyway! You should be able to get it installed and running, and getting into the Steam UI is as easy as running "steam steam://open/friends" from your console and then opening any of the many links that open in the main window.
