S.T.A.L.K.E.R SoC Causing Computer to Restart

#1 Post by KyeRaor »

So, just bought all three games off the Steam Summer Sale and kinda glad I didn't pay full price for them at the moment. The title says it all, for the most part. I can get past the THQ, nVidia logos at the beginning and I'm able to watch the intro cinematic. The problem arrives when I'm talking to Sid, or when I just finished talking to the Lone Wolf Guy and heading for the group I'm supposed to help (A few minutes of Gameplay). Without notice my computer will restart, and I get no error message of any kind before or after the restart.

Only when I started looking for help or a tweak to my problem do I see how bugged STALKER apparently is, :/.

Windows Xp Home Edition
nVidia GeForce 9800 GT
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, 3.00 Ghz
Memory: 2 Gigs of Ram

Any help or tips appreciated.

Vanilla stalker was always buggy as tits. I'm pretty sure Steam patches it automatically, but make sure it's updated. Then, install Complete 2009. It's an overhaul of the game that fixes almost all bugs and updates the graphics. Hopefully that'll fix your issue.

The issue might also be caused by your absence from MSN. Hint hint

...Computer restarting? Randomly? In the middle of a game? Sounds like overheating, to me.
