Hey everybody,
I'm helping a friend on his site, setting up the forum and what not. I'm having a problem setting the user authentication. Basically, any new member does not receive an email when creating an account. Any thoughts?

I'm going to assume you've verified that the email and registration setups in the forum are correct.
Is it a server you control or your friend controls? Do you know that you can send mail from the server? Many Linux servers will install, by default, a stub MTA that can't actually send emails.
If you can send email, then it gets more complicated -- you have to make sure that the emails aren't getting trapped for one reason or another. If you can check your mail logs, you might be able to see if there are some bounces or refusals from the users' email servers.
