Is your character a Mary Sue / Gary Stu?

#1 Post by Drisk Kayne »

This link is a test to see if a character is a Mary Sue / Gary Stu or not. I found this link on another forum I go to.

http://www.onlyfiction.net/marysue2.html

On that other forum I go to, a whole thread was started where people posted their characters and what those character's Mary sue / Gary Stu score was. Strear Kingslad, after being upgraded from alpha version of his character to beta, then delta, zeta, epsilon, green, seven, pie, and finally now his final version, has a Mary Sue / Gary Stu rating of 12. Put a character of yours through the test to see what that says about him.

Also, I know this isn't the usual kind of topic that's posted in the RP board, but I wasn't sure where else to put this, considering there's a much higher number of people who actually have characters on this board than on the others.

Also, I couldn't put Drisk through the test, because Drisk is an undefined entity, a character that can be whatever I want him to be for an RP. Strear however, now has a much more defined personality, appearance, etc. Anyway, take the test!

mmf.

The best definition I can think of is someone who is too damn perfect/powerful/whatever. Those tests rely primarily on common traits;it's possible to have them without being a mary sue.

Usually the best test would be to get someone to read your work and tell you what they think.

And there's not just a tvtropes page on it-they have an index.

Ah well. It can only be natural when a Human is mixed with a Demon Prince and an Archangel. There is no way you can make that kind of character weak without cutting off all his limbs.

Sithil Azthlag Darmenia: 48 Gary Stue points. That's about as much as I was expecting. If you're wondering, I am thinking about writing a story with Sithil as one of the characters. Not the main one though.

Boron Saint character I'm working on falls between a zero and twenty one, varies because "Boron Saint" is a title and not the characters themselves.

Beyond such, I have no real characters that are consistently used between RPs, stories, etc.

I did a few characters in my story:
Asuilla Marril: 34
Tycho Sonata: 26
Valentine Sonata: 18

And just for kicks, I also did it for a character that I don't have a name for other than 'Vider', who is my unlikeable sociopath character.
He got -1 somehow. He is beyond anti-sue.
And so it was that Godhead Pickle Inspector created the universe. He regarded His creation with fondness and saw that it was good.

I did the test on my two characters, Ethan and Cael. Ethan scored a 5 while Cael scored a good 12.

Of course, I haven't developed Ethan completely yet, since Cael is the main character, so it seems fair that he would end up as a supposed Anti-Sue in the test.

Mary-Sues ought to be vanquished.

Thankfully my character isn't a Gary-Stu, but also isn't an Anti-Stu. He got a good score of 12.
