Malcolm peaked over Quentin's shoulder, admiring his attention to detail as he helped himself to a another serving of scotch. "Not bad, not bad at all. Remind me to ask you for help next time I need it illiterate something for my medical journals. With my skill, you'd hard pressed to tell the difference between an arm an a leg. Usually something you'd want to avoid in my field." Malcolm joked before taking a glance out the window.

"Oh my, is that the time?" Malcolm said as he noticed the amber glow of the evening's sunset pierce into the room. "I'm sorry, lads, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to throw you out. I've got some dinner plans you see, and I can't quite just leave the pair of you here on your own."

Malcolm escorts the pair to the front door of his establishment, shaking the pair warmly by the hand as the leave. "Thanks again Tobias. I hope I'll see you around more often." He then turns to his wolfish friend. "As for you, feel free to come back when ever you find any interesting ingredients. I'm always interested in refilling my stocks."

As the pair head off together, Malcolm locks up the shop behind him. Placing the key in his pocket and heading to the inn for dinner.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Phaing looks up to see Malcom inter the Inn.
She smiles and waves to him, and then nudges Oelie and nods towards the door. "Well now, looks who's here. Should we invite him to join us? I mean, we'll be seeing a lot of him in the days to come... if all goes well. But maybe he is expecting us to be civil, or something like that."

Lei hadn't been doing much with his meal at the time, simply stirring it about with a wooden spoon as he proceeded to stare at the book's cover, only occasionally remembering to eat as his mind processed the information he'd just been reading.
"Yeah, interesting..." He said absent-mindedly. Perhaps he'd have been more interested if the Fauna hadn't consisted of mostly wolves. Why couldn't it have been felines? He wouldn't have minded a cute tiger or two...

The scholar had to actively give himself a mental slap in the face to prevent himself from daydreaming about a feline Keidran playing with a ball of string.
Just in time to notice Phaing nudging him, actually, and also just in time for him to turn and notice just who had walked in.

"Ah, Malcolm! Having dinner here as well, I take it?"

Malcolm quickly turned as he heard his name called from the back of the room. Quickly spotting the pair beckoning him over to join them. Raising a hand in acknowledgement before wondering over to join them.

"Oh, hello there. I honestly wasn't expecting to you two so soon." Malcolm said in pleasant surprise. "Oh, yeah. I come in here every week. Today's the day they have Alice in the kitchen, and damn does she make a nice roast lamb. I swear, those leopards now how to treat meat right." there's a bit of a dopey smile on his face as Malcolm starts fantasising about his up coming meal.

"Oh, sorry. I should have asked before. Would you mind if I joined you two, or was this a private dinner?"
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Phaing glances left and right, her expressive eyes don't take him seriously for a moment.
"I may be a little fuzzy on the concept, but how can anything be 'private' in the same room where two dozen other people are having dinner at the same time?"
She winks and pushes a chair seems to move out from the table of it's own accord... but then you see her foot moving around under the table. "Have a seat, and whatever you do, lets not talk shop, my partner here is way too absorbed in your book as it is!"

She herself looks a bit sweaty and dusty, wearing brief and rough clothing but looking happy with herself as she digs into the meal before her with a gusto. "Take my bread if you wanna, I ain't gonna have no room for it once I polish off this Lamb."

"He means the table, I'm sure. Speaking of which, no, feel free to join in."
As Lei said this, he decided enough was enough and put the book away, shoving it under his coat for the time being.
He also look about to go pull out a seat himself before noticing it was already done. And by that point, it seemed as if the rest of dinner had arrived.

Lamb and bread, though he doubted the latter would be anywhere near as good as the meat. Not that he minded, the smell alone was intoxicating.
The scholar had suspicions that it was gonna be one of those rare good days, and for the time being, it looks like he was right.

"Thank you, I have to say it's a rare treat to be eating with company." Malcolm says happily as he pulls out the chair offered by Phaing a bit more before falling into it with a heavy thud.

"Ah, I love it here. Can't quite say there's anywhere else like Ridgegate (IRL: It was Ridgegate right?)." Malcolm throws up a hand trying to wave down a young she wolf waitress; Who upon seeing him, gave a polite wave and headed out back. One of the many perks of being a regular is after a while, everyone knows what you like.

"So, how have you two settled in? Have much of a chance to see any more of the sights since we last spoke?"
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

"So, how have you two settled in? Have much of a chance to see any more of the sights since we last spoke?"
"Settled in, yes. And Lei here is teaching me your language very well." She grins and winks at him.
Phaing is barefoot, and Lei feels her toes stoke his lower leg under the table.

Back to Malcom; "As far as 'seeing the sights' ... I don't know about that. If this place is as good as it gets, what sense is there in going much farther?" And the way she glances around does not indicate that she is overly impressed with the place itself.
"I was planning on getting cleaned up and then headed for bed after dinner... unless somebody has a better idea...?"
She glances back and forth between the two men.

[Sorry about the delay.]

"It's... complicated?"
Lei had said to Phaing, offering little more than a shrug.
"Personal space and such. I wouldn't worry too much about it right this moment."

It was then that he decided that he might as well get started, and promptly began to dig in to his own food, leaving Phaing to continue the conversation.
Didn't take long afterwards for him to feel something rubbing against his leg, causing it to flinch away a bit at the unexpected 'assault'.

If he didn't know better, he'd have sworn this girl was a Keidran stuck in a human's body, and that was a difficult thing to get used to.

"Because you really don't know what you'll find." Was his answer to her question. "And there's no way to find out unless you go looking around."
"Anyway... I'm planning on reading a bit more by candle-light and heading to bed once the moon gets high enough in the sky."

Malcolm almost goes to correct her, however he hesitates when he realises the role should fall upon Lei. Seeing that he's the one with the new role of translator.

Well.. He tired...

Malcolm rolls his eyes, but he can understand Phaing's lack of interest in small town life. "I could never handle the hustle and bustle of city life; so many people crammed in together. Urgh, horrible." he gives a slight shutter to emphasise his feelings on the matter. "No, I needed somewhere nice and quiet to do my work, and luckily Rigegate happened to be just what I was looking for."
Stryder221 wrote:"Because you really don't know what you'll find." Was his answer to her question. "And there's no way to find out unless you go looking around."
"Yes, exactly!" Malcolm shouted in agreement. "The wilderness mightn't look all that interesting from behind a pane of glass, but once you get out and explore, there's no telling what you may find." For someone who's never spent a night away from the comfy confines of his home, Malcolm certainly seems to get riled up when discussing the prospect of adventure. "Not just last week I was out along the hilly part of the local forest, searching for herbs; and seeming out of no where I discovered a new cave I'd never seen before. So naturally, I equipped my light stone and went inside, and boy what a discovery I made.

The cave was completely pitch black, if it wasn't for the strange luminous fire flies with covered every inch of the cave's ceiling. Giving off a calming light blue glow bright enough that I could see without the need for the stone in my hand. Inside there were a series of shallow holes, filled with pleasantly warm water, and a thin layer of steam filled the air.

And that's when I found it. Off in a darkened corner of the cave, there it was. A rare clump of Purple headed Deathcaps, can you believe it!?"

Unfortunately for Phaing, it appears she'd fallen in with a crowd of career scholars, both too obsessed with their work to really see the value in other 'unimportant things'.

"Actually, I was hoping I might get a chance to run into that exotic wolf everyone was raving about earlier in the day, but unfortunately I don't seem to see him around."

Malcolm gives a slight shrug of his shoulders. "Oh well, I guess I'm free for the night if you two wanted to do something. Otherwise, I'll probably just be heading back home on my lonesome once you both head to bed."
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Phaing seems upset, but she closes her mouth and thinks for a moment. "I'm sorry, I didn't think. You must be tired, it has been a heck of a day, hasn't it? I'm so fired up about being here that I am practically bouncing off the walls ... " She smiles and sits back in her chair, both feet on the floor. "Doan' worry 'bout me, take care of you and we'll get back to business tomorrow, alright?"

She raises an eyebrow at Malcom. "Purple-headed what?" Her snarky tone ends when she blinks and asks "Do you deal in poisons, too?"
An intersting notion, perhaps an extra weapon is available to her.

Time. The line of everlasting existence through events and history? Or was it something more? Fact was, time was not something that could truthfully be explained by anyone. It was infinite. Just like the mysteries it held deep within its roots...So many thought of time as a way to recognize the present...Others believed it to be so much more. A force beyond comprehension doing its work unintentionally and perfectly all at once. The stubborn existence of organization that held the past within a seal. The bringer of the future and the giver of the present. Some believed time to be a god all itself, invisible to the naked eye and unheard through religion. And for all anyone knew it very well could have been. When phrases are shouted out like ‘we are out of time!’ or ‘Times up.’ they are just phrases, to others they are tribute to the all mighty god of time. Whoever it may be weather it was real or not. Or perhaps…for something to be real one must simply believe it to be real? Faith was a powerful substance in many cultures throughout history. The Templar. The Bastien...A multitude of other factions who all followed their own obscured beliefs and faiths which kept their eyes closed to the real world.

Consisting side by side with time was the gift of memories. A function of history stored within the subconscious of ones mind throughout the period of their lives. Of course…there were always memories better left forgotten. Despite the fact memories would always eventually be forgotten in the downward spiral called time. The memories of the past, of those before us. Never told from the beholder but often from the witness. Stories and legends passed down generation to generation but with each generation only losing more and more of the truth as the line between reality and fantasy grows ever so thinner. It was the same with the beings that traveled the world. Over time ones blood does not strengthen. It weakens. If one were to make a copy, of a copy, of a copy it would not come out stronger. But weaker. This has always been true. The memories that held the truth where lost…forgotten In time.

It was sad...in its own way. Life was given to the world eons ago and since then what has anyone done with it? Cultures and civilizations rise and fall...beings as powerful as gods live out their existence until they to wither away and die. Dragons had created many gifts within the world...and yet just as many curses. The concept of balance was obscure and almost nonexistent in today's world of madness. Factions going to war over little more than the practice of blind faith...

How simplistic.

And as those vibrant bi colored eyes stared upon the walls of his room he remained still...silent...a statue staring into the fade.

"You can't stay here forever..." A womans voice rang from beside him...the golden marked canine grimaced, shifting his gaze back to the she-wolf who remained posted against the wooden door frame.

"True...but for now i'm simply wasting time. I've stirred up quite the commotion with my arrival..." He replied, twirling a knife within his fingers and sighing deeply. "They should be arriving soon." He muttered, pushing himself up from the floor and sheathing his blade.

"Tsk. Wasting time is 'all' you've been doing. Have you forgotten why you are here? Every moment you waste is another moment sh-"

He lifted a hand and shot her a glare. Clicking his tongue and narrowing his gaze. "Hey hey hey...no." He quipped simply. Grabbing his cropped jacket and sliding it on and collecting his things. "I'm going to get my refill. Hopefully by the time i concluded my business they'll be here. Until then, watch yourself. Some of the folk around here don't take very kindly to wolves." He warned, walking over to the door and adjusting his hair. Just before he reached for the door knob the sound of muffled screaming rang in his ears.

"And what do you want done with him?" She asked bluntly. Julius looked over his shoulder at a man tied up in a chair and gagged...a long blade in both his knee caps and blood trickling down the humans face. His eyes flared with color, frowning deeply.

"Cut off his manhood and feed it to the goats." He growled, turning his back on them and opening the door. Heading out into the hall, he went down the stairs of the inn and looked to the Inn Keeper who was serving drinks. Giving her a charming smile and waving innocently as he headed outside.

Now...where was the apothecary...

Lei couldn't help but chuckle. He hardly knew anything about herbs, but the other scholar's enthusiasm about his trade was a refreshing sight to see. To be quite honest, he found more interest in Malcolm's description of the cave itself than the
deathcaps. It sounded like quite a sight to see.

But while we're on that subject... Lei would've chuckled had he not noticed a sudden change of Phaing's tone, and soon realized that she actually sounded a bit... off, earlier.
"Just about anything can be a poison, if you use enough of it and/or in the right way." He commented, his own brows raising. He'd have been lying if he said he wasn't slightly concerned, though for somewhat different reasons than the girl maybe wanting to poison someone.

The red-haired scholar took a free moment to adjust his glasses, about to add something more to the conversation before a particularly interesting sight entered his vision.
"Speaking of the wolf, though..." This sight was what had led to him nudging Malcolm, motioning over to a certain Keidran, waving to the innkeeper before heading out. The guy stuck out like a sore thumb, which probably meant his sudden nudge was unnecessary.

"Yes and no. While it is a notable a poisonous substance, I use it solely for the medical prospects." Malcolm went on to explain quite happily. It was becoming clear it was dangerous to speak shop around this healer with the risk of a lesson or lecture around every corner. "The same toxins found in deathcaps that affect the nervous system are also brilliant at killing off unwanted bacterial infections and fungus. You just have to be careful with the application and ensure it's diluted to the point where if it does entire the blood steam the worst that'll happen is the patient may feel some dumbness in the affected area."

Malcolm's tone and expression shifted very quickly once he'd finished his chain of thought, recalling Phaing's wording and the possible implications of what she may have been asking.

He seemed somewhat offended by the concept of being confused for a brewer of poisons. He leans in close to the pair and his voice seems to lower to a deeper sombre tone. "I assure you both, you won't find any such substance in my store. Nor will I tolerate either of you experimenting in such a distasteful practice should either of you wish to continue studying alongside me. Am I understood?"

"Hmm?" Malcolm hummed, turning back to catch the last glimpse of the wolf leaving the establishment, suddenly bringing joy and excitement flooding back into his cheeks. "Right, well come on then. What are we waiting for?" Malcolm ask as he quickly shuffles out his seat and starts heading to follow the exotic visitor.

Phaing's eyes go wide, she wasn't expecting this. However, she leans right into the confrontation, and hisses back at him;
"Yeah, I understand, and if it's illegal here all ya gotta do is say so. But answer me this before you go all high-horse; if some hulikng gob of stench-ridden leather that has 3 pounds to your 1 pins you down with the express intention of raping and possibly killing you for fun, wouldn't an edge of some kind seem like a GOOD thing to have? If you have never had that experiance, its even more unpleasant that you can imagine." She sighs and half-closes her eyes. "Just don't look at me like there is something wrong with me, okay?"

No, but you might want to nudge Phaing, she is slow to come down off her confrontational-mode.

Umm... just like that?
Well, anyone else would be upset that this moment happened now, with her looking like a ragamuffin fresh from a tussle in the alley, but Phaing just nods and gets up without a thought, let a long a 2nd thought. She is bringing up the rear, to be sure, but right there with you.
