The Red Frontier, A violent martian colonial experience!

#1 Post by the red soldier »

Mars, the Red Frontier as they call it on earth. Not Red for the color of the world itself but red for the blood of its victims. Oh no, Mars is no happy place to live in these days, unless your rich and you like to play the role of a despot Tyrant then maybe it is the place for you. But for the rest, everyday is a battle for survival, from the worlds harsh environment, from the City Rings constant strife, from the Red Dunes hungry tribals, there is no safe place on Mars.

In the Red Dunes more developed settlements, Kingston, its death pits roared at the sounds of the combatants and the cheering of the crowds. This wasn't a dispute between two hardheaded raiders like they usually are, no, this was a grand tournament to celebrate Kingston's official alliance with its ever powerful neighbor, the Corvid Bloc. The Corv himself along with the King of Kingston, sir Saint of Third, where watching the tournament from there special balcony, usually reserved for Sir Saint himself. Although Sir Saint was a feared lord himself, he was nowhere near the Corv's level and it showed, Sir Saint looked like the Corv's personal servant the way he acted around him. Although they clearly talked, they were to far up for anyone to hear them, nevermind the cheering crowds watching the death pits filling the air with sound pollution.

Meanwhile, back down to the commoners floor, the death pits roared as the many bars around it filled the angry crowds drunken happy hour. A woman though, sat silent on a bar stool, playing around with her half filled beer. "This stuff tastes horrible..." She said to herself. "Might as well put some dirt into it, might look cleaner that way..." The stuff did look a tad... dirty but that's mars for you. Looking back at the pits, she watched as one of them fell to the other's chainsaw and surrendered. People quickly tossed money around after the match, some with happy faces and others with faces ready to kill, probably lost.

The ex-colonel, overheard the girl talk about the beer, and he couldn’t agree more. Walker was on personal leave, leaving the sheriff to keep the town in order. He took another swing at the beer, it was truly disgusting, but it kind of reminded him of his time in the Earth’s army. Just like the coffee, the beer was truly horrible. “Couldn’t agree more, Martians can’t make beer worth of crap, hell, a [censored] armless morph could do better. But it’s probably the only thing safe to drink here.” He sighed after making his little rant, and then whispered, “Boy I wish I was back in Europe, best beer on earth and in the galaxy Guaranteed.” He turned around to watch the fight and was still disappointed with the results… another man got slaughtered by a chainsaw. It was nearly so boring he could clap slowly, but instead he decided to down his sorrows away again. He turned to the girl, “So what are you doing here? I know it’s not for who has the best beer on mars, even they can tell you that answer. No-one!” He chuckled.

Maze walked into the bar on the common floor and went to a stool sitting acting as if he was waiting for something..Even though he didn't need to drink now he still liked conversing with the people to get rumors and even info on targets sometimes or otherwise he would just enjoy a nice chat. However today for the moment he was free to enjoy himself and talk to some of the locals or just whoever wanted to talk and so he began with the barkeep "Any news?" he asked but the barkeep just said "Nothing anyone hasn't already heard."Said the barkeep before going on to his bussniess. Then Maze just sat there waiting and watched the fight seeing a man getting defeated by some guy with a chainsaw and he clapped "Not the best i've seen but it's still good."Said Maze clapping slowly

Roland entered the bar hoping he hadn't missed anything good. Looking around to find a spot he noticed very nice women being chatted up by some guy. [Well I guess I missed something nice], he thought. Roland decided to sit two seats down from the two and orderd a shot of whiskey and began to drink before the next fight was announced. "Hey can anyone tell me who won the last fight? Got some coin riding on the outcome of it. Please tell me it was Psycho.", he said so most of the other barflies could hear.

Maze looked to Roland and answered him saying "It was the guy with the chainsaw.."Maze said from his seat which wasn't far off from the three he then said with a chuckle "I bet I could beat most of those in the pits..Their not used to death matches though ehehehe.."Maze said with a slightly evil but happy tone as he took out one of his retro katanna's and began to inspect it.

As the mess from the fight was cleaned up, Dom finishes attaching his armor, then pulls down his goggles and swings a flanged mace up to his shoulder. *Why'd the hell'd they give me his slow thing?* After the combatants names were announced, he steps out and sees his opponent. The two stared each other down as they began to circle the ring. *Well, this'll be fun.* The cyborg suddenly locks down his legs and fires his cannon, barely giving Dom time to dodge. Dom comes out of his roll and charges his opponent, dodging another blast as he does. *Why don't I ever bring my gun to these things?!* He lunges forward and swings up the mac, smashing it down on the cyborg's cannon, then spins off the cyborg's leg to swing again. The cyborg grabs him with its right hand and swings the other arm at him. Dom twists out of the way and swings the mace down into the giants stomach, crushing through the armor. As the cyborg drops him, Dom spins to land a kick across its face, dropping it onto its back. It tries to use its arms to get back up, its legs apparently disabled. Dom lunges and brings the mace down on the cyborgs right shoulder, knocking it down again with another kick. Dom steps up onto the cyborg's chest, resting the mace on his shoulder. He looks down at its face, "You done?" The cyborg responds with a grunt and swings its left arm up, only to have it smashed across the elbow. "How 'bout now?!" Dom asks again, swinging the mace back up to his shoulder. "I'd never submit to a fleshbag, especially not to an animal like you" the cyborg spat. "Wrong answer" Dom says as he swings the mace down on the cyborgs face.
Dom jumps down off the cyborg, splashing into a small pool of oil, and walks back towards the gate, dropping the mace just before stepping out of the ring and going to collect his winnings.

Zachary lifted his filter and took a sip of his beer he shot a glance at the two talking about the beer, he shook his head "oi! you two keep complaining about that beer, best they got here, damn good too." he leaned back as far as his center of gravity would allow and sighed through the filter "it's a lot better than that earth stuff...WAYYY to rich for me, I'm surprised that you don't have to run to the bathroom every-time you take a shot of that, at least here the beer tastes like beer, and not some form of perfume those steel humpers wear." he returned back to his drink.

Roland ignored the smart comment and just figured he would find out if someone came to collect from him. The new fight was amazing and made him wish he had a bet on the furball that dominated his opponent. He heard the man coment on beer and laughed before saying, "Well that's why the should get harder stuff. Or maybe just not drink at a bar that is on Mars and in the Red Dunes!" He smirked a little and took a shot of whiskey after lifting his breather abit. "Hit me bartender cause I feel lucky!", Roland said after tapping the counter like a blackjack player.

Lily

Lily kept spinning the beer around, not very interested in anything. "Came to Mars to catch a few heads. Turns out most of the heads worth a pretty penny always ends up having an warband or an army watching there backs. Tough luck I guess." With that, she glanced at the Corv before watching the Death Pits. It was surprising that the anthro kicked the cyborgs behind, most of the time its the other way around. "Mars turned out to be way out of my league, no wonder there aren't any other Desro Agent on Mars, smart enough to stay away. What about you, what are you doing on Mars if your missing earth so much?"

Then, some smart mouth seemed to be insulted that the dirt beer wasn't to there liking. "Atleast earth drinks wont ruin your innards in a week."

The Corv

On top of the balcony, the Corv had his mask off but was covered in shadows as he drinked directly from a bottle of one of the more expensive types of Vodka, coming directly from Earth's Moscow, rare stuff on Earth, nevermind Mars. Sir Saint ran around like a headless chicken, trying to please the Corv in every manner he could. "I hope everything I-Is to your liking Lord Corv! M-might I remind you just how important this alliance is to the kingship of Kingston!" The Corv didn't think to highly of Sir Saint, he was a pimp, no more in his eyes. The man just wanted power for powers sake and when he now finally holds it, seemed completely clueless as to what to do with it.

Corv stood silent, sipping a bit from his bottle from time to time as he looked at the Death Pits. he anthro surprised him when he killed the clearly bigger cyborg. "Tell me, saint, is it you policy to have combatants kill the other without your permission?" "Is that... a ba-" "Because such lack of discipline is a clear sign of weakness on your part." Suddenly, the Saints face turned white as if he'd seen a ghost. "J-just a moment mighty Corv I will fi-" "There is no fixing what is clearly broken, Saint. Now sit and enjoy the show... I insist." The Saint sat on his throne, extremely nervous. This alliance suddenly felt like a takeover.

Jacob's POV
Jacob turned to the arguing pair and let his heavy arm drop and slam into the table to get their attention. "At least you two can still drink. I'm stuck in this suit. Of course, I myself was a wine drinking person, but ever since grapes became extinct on Earth and the Venus colonies are the only place you can get them, I never got the chance to indulge myself....... But where are my manners? I am Jacob Darby, of Darby bodyguards. Highest survival rate for a body guard in this area. So I heard you were searching for some heads, would you mind if I help? I'm in need of cash myself and wouldn't mind doing a job on the side."

The good looking woman seemed to have a smart mouth like his, and that made him wish he was sitting by her more than the stiff that was. "Well I think I would prefer to die from gut rot than drowning from Earth drinks while trying to get a buzz." Then he heard Jacob and replied, "Well at least you can say you have such a nice record." Roland thought of the many people that died from bad bodygaurds.

After collecting his money, Dom walked out of the fighters area to move out to join the spectators. On his way out, he stepped up on a box in view of the balcony and bowed slightly towards it, hoping that the arena leader would accept that as an apology for killing a combatant without permission. He then made his way around to the bar, gesturing for a drink and putting some money on the counter as he takes a seat. He adjusts his rifle across his back and waits for his drink, both enjoying and despising the stares and glares he was receiving. When he got his drink he gulped it down, then spun around to see if another fight would be starting.

Zachary looked at the group slowly gathering "wow, fire of a comment on beer and who drinks it as what, and you get a weird crowd, much to my liking." he looked at the barkeep "barkeep another round to this group here to all that care, and somethin' earthen for the lady, if you got it, and it won't rip open my pocket, or wallet." "name's Zachary stills, guide to the sands, and telepath...nah not going to use extraordinaire there's a lot better then me...like ones that can actual talk...or the blobs of flesh you know as freaks...but still, decent telepath."

“Used to do tours here on the Martian theatre. Was part of the military, Ranger, tried to unify the Martian front from their confederacy, even though Earth has this planet as a colony.” He saighed, “I would go back to Earth, but it’s just so empty there, ironic due to the amount of cities and people there and practically nothing here. I could never rest there as I could here, explosions and gunshots are just too familiar to me, plus it’s just the beer that gets me going, the entire planet is as if they are bent on rules and regulations.” He sighed again, and drowned himself once again in the horrible tasting beer, and ignores the comment directed at him and the girl. After downing it he shook and made an audible electrical noise. “Plus I like the danger, killing is what I do best and here, danger the death is everywhere.” He looked at the incredibly large machine/man and couldn’t get his mind off the resemblance to marines. “Hey Darby, just wondering, were you in? and if so which branch and station?”

Jacob's POV
Jacob laughed as someone asked him if he was a marine. "No, I was never a marine. It's just that I got an old suit for use on Venus. They were upgrading the Marines stationed there and couldn't bear to just throw out the old suits. So they gave it to all the private security contractors that were guarding the mines and other resource points since they were tough and could withstand the atmosphere there. Course, thanks to the fact that this suit also has a lot of life support systems, when that mine I was guarding blew, the medics/surgeons/doctors/Bob never did figure out who thought of this idea..... grabbed what was left of me, fused me into the suit, sealed it up, and kept me alive like that! Which is how I got stuck in this suit in the first place. Surprised none of you heard about it, I sued the hell out of that company. All over the news for a few days. Then I came here and became a bodyguard. Yep, story of my life." He chuckled some more as he finished his story.
