The Iron Wars

#1 Post by the red soldier »

The once great capital of Frosthelm, a once beautiful city turned into nothing more then a smoldering pile of ruins by endless bombings and artillery fire. The Sovereign legions slowly grinds the city to dust inch by inch as there unstoppable Rhamos tanks relentlessly advances with near endless soldiers behind them. The sound of gunfire deafened the air, the smoke of artillery blackening the sky, the screams of the dying unbearable to hear. This merceless assault was typical no mercy Sovereign doctrine, no mercy, be it soldier or civilian.

One man, wearing a blue naval rain coat, ran wildly into the streets as bullets from both allies and enemies wized past his head. "Crap, crap, crap, crap..." He kept repeating over and over again. Passing another street and entering a small alley, the man entered another street only to be face to face with a Rhamos. "CRAP! CRAP! CRAP! CRAP!" He started screaming as the machine guns started firing chaotically towards his general direction. Running for his life in another alley, a massive explosion made the building next to him collapse, probably the tank shooting its main gun at him. He finally jumped over a Greatholm held barricade as the soldiers were stunned at his sudden appearance, only to start shooting a few seconds later. "Good god! That was a close one!" The man said entering a small tent. "Commander sir! I've got the required documents you wanted. Better be damned important because I went through hell to get them."

The general opened them quickly, sighing at the many numbers in the documents. "Alright, begin evacuations. Were moving the main HQ two miles to the east." The tent suddenly went into a frenzy as people began to pack up. "B-but they'll be a mile away from the capital building at that point!" "Do you see any other options? There right on top of us and a mere hour away from taking this area. Frankly I'm surprised they havent bombed us to the stone age already. Oh, by the way, your promoted to officer of squad F32." The man seemed confused and shocked. "Why me?" "Your the only man still alive and qualified. You can see how desperate we are when were sending a court martialed man to be an officer. There waiting for you in the plaza." Sighing and leaving the tent, the man passed a few ruined buildings as frantic soldiers kept going back and forth. Upon reaching the plaza, he looked at his new squad of misfits and sighed. "Good god were screwed. Atleast we have a tank and... is that guy wearing Sovereign armor?!"

Nick was sitting on the ground, fiddling with the scope on his rifle. He looked up when he heard someone talking, at the armor comment he stood up and pointed at himself. "Who, me? Yeah, it's their armor, I... Requisitioned it." He pulled the mask up and grinned. "So, you must be the new squad leader, eh? I'm not too keen on the whole squad thing, I prefer to work alone. Don't need to worry about people who're close to you dieing then. Though I suppose it's better to be in a position where you can protect those that're close to you." He brought his rifle up and looked down the scope, making sure it was aligned properly. After adjusting it some, he let it hang in front of him on it's sling.

"Move it kid!" A young woman and a boy who couldn't be more than 20 ran through the streets, dodging enemy gunfire and desperately trying to lose a Rhamos tank. "Shut up, I'm right behind you!" The boy jumped over a piece of rubble ad bullets pinged off the walls around him. He quickly looked behind them to see the Rhamos readying it's main gun. "Look out!" He dove at the woman and knocked her behind cover just as the tank's round blew up the building they were in. "That was clo-" His voice was cut off by Angela clamping a hand over his mouth. "Shh.." She grabbed him tightly and scooted under a chunk of the collapsed building.

"Do you see them?" "No, I don't think anything could have survived that blast, especially not a woman and a kid." "Move out then!" The soldiers and tank turned away and started heading back towards the rest of the invasion forces.

Several minutes later, Angela and Marcus stood up and slowly crept out of the building. Once she was sure the coast was clear, Angela turned to Marcus and placed a hand on his head. "Quick thinking back there kid, you'd make a decent soldier." Now that they weren't being pursued, the two of them quickly made their way through the streets, heading towards the last known location of the base camp.

Walter's POV
Walter was leaning on a wall and he started to chuckl at the sight of the new CO. "So you're our new CO? Heh. Well, welcome to Squad F32. I was the highest ranking member here, but hey, welcome to the team. But I should introduce myself. I'm Walter Darby, tank commander." He did a salute. "It's nice to meet you, but I need to do some last minute preps." Walter walked over to the top of the tank, opened a hatch, and dropped in.

Victoria's POV
She watched as the rest of the thrown together excuse for a squad welcomed the new CO. He didn't look all that impressive to her. She knew why he'd gotten the position over her, he was a guy. Well, I guess it's my turn to say hi now. she thought, approaching the man. She stared at him for a second before throwing a tomahawk between his feet. "Pay attention, cause I'm only gonna say this once, sir" she began, putting emphasis on the sir. "I don't have anything against you, but the only reason you got this position over me is cause you're a guy, which isn't particularly impressive. Maybe you deserved it, but so far I haven't seen anything that tells me that, and I doubt I will." She picked up her tomahawk before starting again."And one more thing, if you even think of not putting me in a situation just cause I'm not male, then I'll help you know what it's like not to be a guy." She walked off after finishing her spiel, returning to her previous position sitting on the tank, and began to heck her weapons.

Nerus' POV
He watched the girl finish her intimidation attempt, and approached the new squad leader. "Nice to meet you sir! I'm Nerus Kaufman. I'm not quite a sniper, but I can make some of the shots they can. I suppose I'd be a long range support gunner. In any case, I'm yours to command." he said before walking off towards Victoria. "What the hell was that? he whispered to her, a tone of urgency in his voice "You're one of the few good close range soldiers we have, and the only one I know of that can do hostage rescue! You keep doing what you just did and your gonna get yourself put in jail again! Oof!" he nearly fell over as she kicked him in the chest from her spot on the tank "Talk to me like that again, snob, and my foots going someplace else.". Nerus walked over to a rock and sat down. He didn't want to fight her.

Cap

The girls intimidation attempt didn't quite work on Cap, no matter how any Greatholm tried to be menacing, they were still kittens and puppies after you saw one of the Barons first hand."I'll have you know I was a captain before being stuck on land. But I digress, we have things to prepare for." He looked behind him, watching the general entering his APC as he and some of the officers started to leave. He rolled his eyes and looked back at the squad and facepalmed. "Why me... I should just run to the federation as a refugee..." He said to himself before stepping on a bench. "Alright everyone, listen up! HQ is moving east. Were going to make sure they reach the- ARTILLERY!" The sudden explosions around them made Cap hit the floor, covering his head.

After the explosions stopped, he got back up, gave a quick glance for wounded, then continued on as if nothing happened. "As I was saying, the HQ is moving east and were playing distraction. Any questions?"

Sovereign, Baron Rip Von Wink

As the sight and sound of explosions filled the city in the distance, the Sovereignty high command was already planning the divide of Greatholm. Inside the Sovereign's massive fortress tank, towering over everything around it, the generals were arguing amongst themselves on how they would use Greatholm as a staging ground for further conquest. The Sovereign sat on a throne like chair, towering over the others as he simply listened to what they had to say. The Sovereign suddenly waved his hand. "You are all dismissed gentlemen." The room started to empty itself out except for two men, the Barons. One wore glasses, wearing a simply black coat while the other was in full uniform, gas mask and all. "I dont care how you do it. Use the army, sacrifice anyone you deem necessary but the Archduchess of Greatholm must not escape the city. I'd rather have her alive but kill her if there is no other possible option." The Baron in full uniform made the Sovereignty salute (Slam one fist on your chest) "It shall be done, great Sovereign."

The Sovereign's chair spanned around as he was now back to the Barons. "As long as she lives or remains free, Greatholm will always resist to the last. Rip out the resistance's heart though and it withers and dies."

the other Baron in simple black saluted as well, "as you command it shall be Great Sovereign." he looked at the other baron, he did get along decently with the other baron, but he didn't know what was ticking in his fellow baron's head. one cannot be methodical when it came to knowing what a person thought...nevertheless, right now planning had to come "Baron Rip, will you meet me in the planning room, we need to come up with a means to crack this city. before those backed into the corner can acquire allies...or find a more suitable area."

Nerus
He was a bit shaken, that was the first time he'd ever been that close to artillery before. He was glad it hit though, the girl had been about to say something about what the commander could do with his former position. In any case, he wondered what kind of distraction this would be. He hoped it would be a real fight, all he'd done do far was provide support from an overwatch position, and most people, as far as he knew, still thought of him as a spoiled snob. He wanted a chance to prove that just because he had been rich, didn't mean he was stuck up and useless. He heard Cap ask if anyone had questions. "Uh, what kind of distraction will this be sir?" he responded.
"Aww, is the poor wittle baby worried? Afraid your gonna break a nail, snob?" he heard the girl call out. She was starting to annoy him.

Angela and Marcus had finally reached the campsite, only to see it being packed up. She walked up to the General and saluted him. "Sir, what's going on? Where is everyone going?" "We're moving the base further to the east, the enemy is already on top of us and we're going to lose this position. I'm assigning you to squad F32 lead by Officer Cap, they're right over there. The leader is the man in the blue Naval coat." The General looked down at Marcus and sighed. "This kid with you?" "Yes sir, I dragged him out of a firefight, losing my own squad in the process." "Get this kid a gun, we're gonna need all the soldiers we can get." "But sir, he's just" "But nothing, if he can fire a gun, he's officially drafted." A soldier ran up to them and handed Marcus a bolt-action rifle. "You know how to use that kid?" Marcus held the gun in his hands then looked up at the general and nodded. "Good, welcome to the resistance." With that the General jumped into his APC and took off.

Angela and Marcus walked over to where the others were just as Cap yelled for artillery. Angela grabbed the kid and dropped to the ground. After the blasts finished, they stood up and Angela approached Cap. "Angela Shaffer reporting for duty, sir!" She saluted him and Marcus did the same. "Marcus Shaw, at your command, sir."

Cap

Cap was getting awefully annoyed by this girls negative aura. He could see her being a real problem but could also see her trying to play hero and getting gunned down, he would enjoy the latter really much as he grinned at the sight. Then he dismissed it, they were technically on the same side. "Seriously, shut it." He said pretty direct at the girl. Then the questions about the distraction... what to say? The truth was that they were supposed to die fighting while the officers runned away but Cap wasn't the one to just say that out loud. "We are supposed to hold off a Sovereign attack wave that is currently busy breaching our front lines, which should take them another 5 minutes, 10 if there lazy." Then, suddenly two new members of Squad F showed up. "Great! Just in time for the plan." Opening up a map, showing the area they were supposed to hold. "Luckily for us, these one way streets are to small for Rhamos to pass so its going to buy us some time." Taking out his revolver, he pointed at the streets in question. "Even better, mr tank dude there's tank is small enough to pass. The best thing we can do is take out a Rhamos or two and the little Iron peons will probably run away to regroup." He then looked back at the man wearing Sovereign armor. "You should really paint that armor another color so no one accidently shoots you."

Baron Rip

Baron Rip followed Baron Karl to the planning room, a giant room full of maps and a giant table in the middle of it. Usually it was full of strategists and officers but because of the Sovereigns visit, they had to do it somewhere else as to not disturb his Sovereign. Rip took a seat at one of the ends of the table, overlooking a map of the capital city, Frosthelm. "Her Archduchess would not be stupid enough to remain in the palace, it would be to obvious... My thoughts is that she is constantly on the move." Rip had no way of knowing that, it was just his thoughts on the subject but he had never failed before. "What are your thoughts Baron Karl?"

At the call for Artillery, Nick simply dropped the facemask of the armor, unless it landed a few feet away from him it wouldn't do any damage. At least not any serious damage, some shrapnel may hit and jar him a bit, but oh well. After the artillery blast was over, he pulled the facemask up again. "Yeah, I know. But hell, I'm never on the front lines, so what does it matter." He pulled out a map of his own, it was old and tattered, and it even had a few bullet holes in it. After he unfolded it, you could see he had marked certain buildings with either an X, or a check. He looked it over, finding a checked building near where they were supposed to hold. "Alright then. Assuming you don't have a problem with it, all snipers come with me." He started marching off in a direction after folding the map up again and putting it away.

Ryan was sitting in some rubble about 4 stories up looking out of a window watching as the iron soldiers were about to overrun the Greatholm soldiers frontline. He thought to himself, once the line goes past me I'll be able to sneak down there and hopefully kill some of their leaders in the confusion. Then suddenly he heard footsteps coming up the stairs. He played dead just as three iron conscripts burst into the room. They didn't even look at him twice but why would they there were bodies all over the city there were even two dead civilians in the same room. All three set up at a giant hole in the wall on the other side of the room. One was trying to get an old radio to work, one was spotting targets, and the last one was sniping. Ryan took out his knives and slowly snuck up on his prey. The radio operator looked over his shoulder but it was to late. Ryan slashed his throat and stabbed the spotter in the back of the head. The sniper tried to pull out a pistol but Ryan quickly cut him to pieces before he could. Ryan grabbed his gear from the corner and started walking down the stairs thinking to himself, time to move on.

Abbey squinted out over the landscape as the artillery shells fell. "Damn..." she whispered to herself, trotting down from her lookout towards the group of soldiers just as Cap finished speaking. Holding her rifle in one hand, she saluted Cap with the other. "Abbey Amalia, reporting for duty sir...am I late for the party? Seems that the pep talk just finished."

Victoria's POV
"Seriously, Shut it" she heard him say. Well well, the man's got a spine after all, she thought. There seemed to be a weak possibility she'd been wrong about him. Now wasn't the time for that though. She hopped off the tank and walked over to the map he'd laid out. It was a fairly well laid out plan, especially for being thought up right then. "I could clear the buildings around the streets while the tank moves, that way they won't have a chance to get close. That okay with you? she asked in all seriousness. "If anyone else here can fight in close quarters then I could put together a temporary assault team, I know how to lead one."

Nerus
He heard the man say for all snipers to follow him, and quickly fell in line, checking the ammo on his Gewehr as he went. Oh well, another day sniping. He sighed, his chance would come later. At least he had some competition this time though, in his previous squad he'd been the only long range soldier, everyone else had had pistols or machine guns. He remembered one particularly strong soldier had carried around an M1919 belt fed LMG. He laughed, remembering the frontline troops running the first time they'd seen the man. He wondered where he'd be positioned as he continued walking.

Karl nodded "I'm have to assume a few things...one heavily armored structures, and she gets transported from one to another, or two she's in a combat unit, hiding in plain sight...but not to near the front lines...as to put her in danger. if that were so...maybe a supply unit or engineer corp..." he tapped his fingers against the table, "however that would almost be too cliched...and yet...it would allow her to be closer to her people keep the morale up...but...that would be risky...perhaps I'm over-thinking things? he hated it, he whispered to himself a bit then looked at the baron, "Your the leader of a nation, you care about your people, but your all backed into a corner...you want to help them but at the same time you need to stay incognito...tell me Baron, where would you place yourself?"
