Ayyy Raine ex machina to the rescue. I think this will be thoroughly enjoyable. And squirells are super tough. If a rat trap can't do one in, I doubt being thrown by a guy of average strength at an object will do any major harm.

Squirrels are very flexible : i think mr Nibs is only stunned .......... Meanwhile , see Raine turning as Storm (X_men) is lightly frightening me for Carver safety

I wonder if Raine's absorbing the energy of the shield as it falls apart. The picture of it behind her in the first panel coming apart just feels significant for some reason.

The effect of the barrier collapsing behind Raine as something obviously shatters within her is priceless.
A blast from Raine turns Carver into a shrieking ball of flames...
Zen, suddenly realizes how badly injured he is and collapses in pain...
Sythe, sobbing uncontrollably, rushes over to the motionless form of Mrs. Nibbly...
Maren and Karen trying hard to stay standing, but dazed from lack of oxygen..
Finally, Raine walks to the charred, still quivering form of Carver and hears him say in a weak, pleading voice,
"Please... please kill me!"
And she replies in a kind tone,
"I''m sorry. I know you're in excruciating pain, but there's nothing I can do about it. I can, however, keep you alive and conscious... for quite a long, long time."
