Kieth's shirt in the banner
In the current banner (for those reading this months or years later, the first one with Reni), what is that symbol on Keith's shirt? Is it something found IRL or totally made up for 2K?

Seems to be the sigil of a Basitin General. Alaric wore it when he was first introduced, and the rest of the generals also wore it a little later. Tom hasn't been consistent in drawing it.AmigaDragon wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2017 8:29 am In the current banner (for those reading this months or years later, the first one with Reni), what is that symbol on Keith's shirt? Wow very interesting, I wouldn't have noticed if it hadn't been brought up. So it could be compared to Trace's templar order symbol seen mostly towards the start of the story.Schrodinger wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2017 4:12 pmSeems to be the sigil of a Basitin General. Re: Kieth's shirt in the banner
I'd go so far as to call it the sigil of the Eastern Basitins, considering that, in your first example, Alaric is standing in front of a flag with that embroidered on it. That said, the variation of the emblem between Alaric, Hardpec, and even Keith's shirt in the header (and possibly Alabaster's armor, you can't see enough to tell for sure), suggests either a lack of consistency (though the marked variation between Alaric and Hardpec throws that into question; there's no way you'd be that different by mere accident) or the idea that it is a national crest, which the various Generalities (or what have you) modify slightly to represent their own aspects of Basitin society. This would be paralleled in the United States by the variations on the Great Seal of the United States which are used by the Presidency, Congress, the FBI, the CIA, the NSA, and numerous other parts of government. In other words, the symbol on Keith's shirt could be interpreted as "the Seal of the Eastern Basitin Office of Foreign Affairs" or the "Eastern Basitin Department of State," as "Secretary of State" is sort of what Keith's role as the newly minted "Ambassador General" represents. Keep an eye out to see if Lynn (particularly) or Maddie ends up sporting the same emblem, as members of Keith's entourage; that would be informative as to the purpose of the symbol.Schrodinger wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2017 4:12 pmSeems to be the sigil of a Basitin General. Re: Kieth's shirt in the banner
Interestingly, while the symbol varies from general to general Keith's is the only one that has a different facing. The normal sigil appears to be a drake rising and curling to the left of the viewer. Keith's curls the opposite direction, a pretty significant deviation from the pattern. The drake makes sense since dragon comparisons are a point of pride but the facing is more telling, I think. Keith isn't like the other generals, he stood in opposition to the standing Generals, disobeyed orders, uncovered a Templar plot, and knows more about the outside world than any other basitin. Fitting then that his own crest of office would be the reverse of any other General.avwolf wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2017 7:50 pmI'd go so far as to call it the sigil of the Eastern Basitins, considering that, in your first example, Alaric is standing in front of a flag with that embroidered on it.
