DONE!!

I admit it, I have absolutely no image editor skills. Therefore, page 94 took me two full hours to translate.
It still has some issues, but mostly, it is ready for upload:

Aww, too bad I didn't see your post earlier. I've got both a text, almost the same as the one posted by amenon, and a .psd file with layers that could have made the job easier. Oh well, you did a good job. :squirrel:

Actually, it was quite fun as a challenge. I had to explore a few new features of Gimp.

I am mostly using Kindamoody's text erased versions of the pages for my translation. (Thanks, it saves a lot of work).

However, working on page 110, I noticed something strange: The TE page had a smaller file size than the official page. I first thought I had just by accident downloaded a lower quality version of it, but the page, found here is indeed of lower quality than the original page:

I have not checked if this is the case with many other pages too, but if you are reading this, KiMo, can you replace that page? EDIT: page 108 is also affected.

To make it clear that I'm not ignoring you: I started making new versions of those two pages but my computer crashed halfways through the job so I lost the progress so far. It's more work than it seems to erase those pages with semi-transparent bubbles so I haven't started over yet. Maybe I can get Tom to make speechless versions of them, that would save me tons of time.

Finally I got around to making new versions of those two text erased pages. The new files can be found at http://kindamoody.com/versions/te_files/20040906.jpg and http://kindamoody.com/versions/te_files/20040910.jpg.

Sorry about the annoyance. Back to business.
________________________________________________________

In the past years, several attempts on translating Twokinds have been made, most of them not very successful as the translator usually found the work too hard. But then one day in the #twokinds chat we got news:
Tom in the IRC chat wrote:Jan 30 05:52:11 <Tom> Someone did a complete Russian translation of Twokinds.
There are now full Twokinds translations in these languages:
  • Russian, by Siber, first one to catch up with Tom (in January 2011), active and updates when a new comic is published.
Spanish, by johnny_jones, caught up with Tom on June 20th 2011, also active.
German, by Cornelius, caught up with Tom on October 14th 2011, active.
Portuguese, by xamali, caught up with Tom on May 9th 2012, active.
Swedish, my own, caught up with Tom on June 1st 2012, and I'm planning on being active. ;) (Right now I'm a bit behind, though.)
Polish, by Szmeszek, caught up with Tom on June 10th 2014, active.
Polish, alternative translation by Bartenn and Wojszach, caught up with Tom some time during 2015.
NEW! Czech, by Severka (HatGirl), caught up with Tom on June 17th 2016.
Then there are some unfinished translations:
  • Korean, by ShineVlue. Sadly enough, the translation is gone (I forgot how many pages but I think it was at least 300). It used to be avaiable at twokinds.kr but the domain expired and was taken over by someone else.
Thai, by pcenterplayer, chapters 0-3 done.
Italian, by GeekItalianGuy, chapters 0-2 done. Currently on hold because of lack of time.
Italian, by Kopaka1996, starts off where the other Italian translation stopped but unfortunately this too is discontinued.
Russian, alternative version by surf93, in progress.
Norwegian (nynorsk) by Sigvart Brendberg, in progress, at least 110 pages done in April 2016. Will later move to http://2kinds.tk
Did I forget any? Send me a pm or contact me in my IRC chat channel. (This chat is also a place where I and some of the other translators have been discussing translations in the past.)

Some hints for potential translators. Basically, you need to do these steps:
  • a) remove the original text
    b) translate the text
    c) put your text on the page using some kind of image editor (Photoshop, Gimp or anything that works. But don't even think of using Paint!!!)
    d) (optionally) redo onomatopoeia and other things where just a font is not enough (like in page 20)
    e) find somewhere to upload the pages
    f) (optionally) make a web page that shows the pages, one at a time
But I've saved you a lot of time on step a): on http://kindamoody.com/versions/, my "versions" site, there are (among other versions) text-erased versions of all the pages (except perhaps the most recent one(s). Some things might still have to be erased or changed, but almost all the work is already done. These pages were erased by me, johnny_jones, ShineVlue and surf93 (thanks also to Tom, who simplified the work a lot by providing "speechless" comics). I've also got some .zip archives for download, with many pages in each, but you'll have to ask me for the current URL to them. They might also need to be updated as they're not complete.

Depending on your ambitions you might also be interested in knowing what fonts have been used for the various pages, and I can help you with that too (some of the information I got directly from Tom, so I know it's accurate).

There's at least one older translation thread around, I started this new one as the previous one contains a lot of outdated stuff... if you want to check it out, the main content of it starts around transfers CDG http://twokinds.net/forum/viewtopic.php ... 6&start=21.

It's easy! You just start. Tom has already said he allows alterations of his work, including translations. Begin from page #1 or where you want, use the existing text erased pages or erase yourself if you prefer (you will have to do some work on some pages in any case). If you use the pages I'm providing, note that some pages are a bit old, Tom updated several pages with new graphics and you probably want to use the newer version.

Just one thing: please don't ask me to put your translation (e. g. a link to it) in this thread until you have translated at least a chapter. It's a lot of work to translate (but fun!) and many people give up after the first few pages. After a chapter or so you'll know if you're up for the task or not, and if you're on your way and have the pages on a website somewhere I'll be happy to post a link in this thread.

So, give it a try. I'm hoping to hear from you in the future! :)

It would be cool if you do it, I am just learning french at the moment, and very interested in language practice, my skills are not enough to translate yet, so looking forward to your translation :D

I don't know if I'd have the time, but how do I translate names of the characters into an entirely different language, say, Chinese?
(Chinese words work in a totally different way...)
