Re: TwoKinds Translations

I'm seriously considering translating 2kinds into Koine (i.e. Biblical/Hellenistic/Alexandrian) Greek as a way of keeping sharp, but I'm wondering if people who have worked on translations might answer some questions first?

1. What image editing software do you use? I use a PC. Is there something free out there better than Gimp or Paint?

2. How/where do you host the comic? Again, is there a recommended free service? Does Tom have a preference on how this is done?

3. Thanks to Kindamoody for the already cleared pages!

I was hoping someone else could give you a better answer, but I'll do my best:

I think Gimp should suffice. Myself, I'm using Pixelmator (Mac-only, and cheap but not free) for erasing text and adding graphics, but for the text I'm using my own "assembly tool" that I was planning to put online but the interface is horrible right now.

Free services can be good, but they tend to be unreliable in the long run. I'm paying about $30 per year, I think, for hosting and domain. And I don't think that Tom has any opinion about where you put them, as long as you're not making any money on the site or show them in any inappropriate context.
EDIT: The best way to get visitors, though, is probably if you can publish it on some site with other comics, either linked or hosted there.

You're welcome! I've got more cleared pages and I'm willing to share them too, to anyone who proves hirself to be serious about the work!

On the topic of image editors, Pixlr is a great online editing tool that I use. Give it a shot when you can.

I must say Kimo is doing a really good and thorough job on her translation.
She has worked quite hard on it over the months.

...on an unrelated note: Gray, I love your Sig, both parts of it.

Thank you! *blushes*

But don't forget johnny_jones and Siber, they have both done a lot more than I have so far!

johnny_jones is the Spanish translator with whom I've been sharing the job of text-erasing pages. His translation can be seen at http://subcultura.es/webcomic/twokinds/1

Siber has translated into Russian: http://furries.ru/2kinds/#ris

I've also seen a Polish translation somewhere, but I don't know who made it (it's not the one that Shayd started years ago).

I tried to translate Twokinds into German a while back. But first my computer died (and with the few translated pages disappeared some shuffles) and then I was too busy to continue.

And I have to agree... the hardest part is erasing half-transparent speech-bubbles. But thanksfully Kindamoody provides some of them already so hopefully I can deliver soon some stuff. It's also a good opportunity to improve my english further.
Greetings,
Riddler

Here is a sneak peak. As always, some sentences could not be translated "word by word". Translatating is one of of the toughest jobs since you have to keep the meaning AND give it a proper meaning in the targert language.
Maybe someone could check my translation?

those two took me about 10 minutes... Well, it's not like there's lots of text, isn't it? ^^

Are you using Google translator? If you're a genuine Japanese speaker then it's understandable, otherwise you won't be able to get it right.

Umm, I'm a little confused right now. to which posting or user is your posting related, Conal?
The last reference to Japanese is at page 2 or something and we're right now on page 7.

@Topic: I can only spend a small amount of time into the translation. But the first twenty pages are done, so far.
I'll release the whole bunch as soon as I translated at least the first three chapters.
And another thing: Everyone is welcome to help or improve my translations. I'm not perfect, for sure.
Greetings,
Riddler

He caught up? Indeed, impressive. :D

And for other News: My translation of Twokinds into German is going pretty well. Today I finished page 70.
And to add some more good (?) News: They are available at http://www.twokinds.de  By kind permission of Tom. :)
But still a long way until I caught up-

Any suggestion for a better translation is welcome.
Greetings,
Riddler
