Re: The continuing debate over 'Don't ask, Don't tell'

Thank you, Luigiian, for the concession. That said, I will leave but one parting shot, Wynni and Ashpool: Gays care about DADT because they want respect. If gay people got to live their lives without being persecuted by their own families I think they'd be far less emotional about this. You think th...

Re: The continuing debate over 'Don't ask, Don't tell'

That said, obviously the change shouldn't happen overnight. However, setting an indeterminate goal such as "when the war is over" is inadequate in my opinion. A timeframe should be set, one that is tangible. I agree. I didn't specify anything myself because I have no idea what that time f...

Re: The continuing debate over 'Don't ask, Don't tell'

So I see the "You're emotional and irrational and your thinking is naive and dangerous" argument has been brought to the table. Sorry, I won't buy this. Soldiers in the military are not children and I have more respect for their abilities than to think their lives would be endangered beca...

Re: The continuing debate over 'Don't ask, Don't tell'

Sorry, my latest post might have made it sound like I was accusing or mocking you when I asked you what standards you were speaking of; I actually was seriously asking, what are the standards that you're referring to when you talk about the military? Here, you make it sound like these standards are...

Re: The continuing debate over 'Don't ask, Don't tell'

It sounds like you're saying that the military is somehow better than the common people; I hold myself to the highest standards, and I'm sure I'm not the only civilian to do so. For most civilian jobs people don't die when you [censored] up. And those that do most likely already meet military muste...

Re: The continuing debate over 'Don't ask, Don't tell'

Alright, I guess I can see the logic in it, but it just makes me wonder what the heck the military is really fighting for if they won't even support the same freedoms and liberties they're supposedly fighting for (well, OK, the real reasons they're fighting are economic and political, not humanitar...

Re: The continuing debate over 'Don't ask, Don't tell'

I'm...somewhat confused: ignoring for a moment any awkward wordings or the like in the repeal bill itself, what are people's reasons for thinking that we should wait to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell? Repealing it isn't (or at least, shouldn't be) done for strategic reasons, it should be done for the...

Re: The continuing debate over 'Don't ask, Don't tell'

Congress is the primary legislative body in the country, so I am pretty sure they have primary ruling on the UCMJ. Honestly, the people pushing for a faster move with the DADT repeal need to step back and think. As much as I would like to see DADT go away, right now is not the time. We are still a c...

Re: Rant/Vent/sad thread

..... Just found out that my grandfather has cancer. From what I could gather, it's rooted in the gall bladder and spans into the liver. He's already lost 4 pounds over the last few days because of it. And we were going to have a huge celebration this thanksgiving to celebrate his 80th birthday.......

lmost all of their actions are profit driven, and there is no reason to believe that their actions now are not as well. Fun fact: Did you know that the soul purpose of a company is to make money? Meaning that they are almost always purely profit driven? Congratulations! You made a completely unnece...

Re: Exxon Valdez, consider yourself one-upped

*headdesk* You don't think they're working on it? You think they're all just sitting around the table pointing fingers? This is more than one person we are talking about, and there are people right now out in the gulf working their fingers to the bone trying to contain it. Most of whom are either v...

Re: Exxon Valdez, consider yourself one-upped

Yeah, each of these companies is only concerned with their bottom line. I'd bet money that at the core of all the damage control they're doing right now is something to the effect of "how much money will this save us."

Re: Firearms anyone? Ok whos got em?

But seriously. I don't think it's unfair for us to defend our use of guns, when we are perfectly justified in owning and using them in a legal and responsible manner. I never said it was, Ashpool, but I do think it unnecessary to continue "defending" after the opposing party has already a...

Re: Firearms anyone? Ok whos got em?

Quick! Someone on the internet dares to have an opinion! Get him! Defending Sebbie's right to his opinion and then... Honestly guys, don't try to justify guns just because someone reminded you that they can be pointed at people too. Attacking us for voicing ours in retort! Very nice double play the...
