Re: Speed of light broken again
Experiments with that kind of magnitude have thousands of potential error sources and the numbers increase logarithmically with increasing complexity of the set-up. [censored] happens.

Fridge Brilliance? Eric didn't phrase it as an order, so Evals could act like in a normal conversation. Saying 'Tell me the truth about...' might invoke the spell.avwolf wrote:Actually, even under the control spell Evals has demonstrated that it is possible to lie to Eric.

Re: Comic for February 22nd, 2012
I'm not convinced Eric's smart enough to ask Evals whether he did it or not once he's under effective mind-control.
Not that it's likely to come so far. He's clearly outnumbered and even if Kat sides with him they won't put up much of a fight in case the rest intervenes.

Re: RIP Megaupload
Yes, this has become ridiculous indeed. So you, in other words, say I'm conducting dumb discourse by not adopting an "Everything's cool, nothing to see here, the caravan passes" attitude? Interesting. What you do not realize is that the departments overstep their area of authority in a leg...

Re: RIP Megaupload
Since this is clearly a political thing (coinciding with the protest movements, etc.) meant to scare us into submission I don't see how you can keep a cool head in face of such blatant injustice. How goes the poem? First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communi...

Re: Megaupload Shutdown - Megabox Conspiracy
Unless the music industry has a huge hand in the government, I don't see megaBox as the big reason for the close down. There's a reason MPAA and RIAA are called mafias by various observers. Generally, every multi-billion dollar big shot has a potential hand in the government. How could it be differ...

Re: SOPA/PIPA/Internet Censorship/Internet Privacy
By the way, I don't think that whole censoring business will descend into a world war... SOPA/PIPA could still make a comeback, though, either as the originals or under changed names, but the most grave they would provoke are complaints and then lawsuits from affected countries pointing out that the...

But you're right, history shows empires grow more extremist in their twilight years and the American empire is slowly crumbling.

Re: RIP Megaupload
So if the government, with this action, proved that they already have the power to take down sites that host copyrighted content, why are we still pursuing SOPA and PIPA? They may have the power , but not the necessary legal legitimization. Therefore they push those and ACTA. http://arstechnica.com...

Re: RIP Megaupload
I've heard anonymous is doing something because of it, has anyone heard any details into that? *cough* Anonymous launched a massive DDOS attack on the Justice Department, MPAA, RIAA and others by distributing a link for a web-based LOIC app. The proceedings surrounding MegaUpload may be questionabl...

That said, I find their tactic of linking to a DDOSer site condemnable.
