Re: Constructing some languages; have a couple of questions
Often, humans who can't tell will mistakenly consider all Keidran speaking High Keidran to be female and all Keidran speaking Low Keidran to be male. This suggests to me that Low and High Keidran have a marked pitch difference, although probably a non-phonemic one, since human women use a higher pi...

Re: Constructing some languages; have a couple of questions
1. The Hs in cahrmehrs could indicate the Rs are voiceless or they could indicate the vowel iz breathy or simply be voiceless glottal fricatives. 2. The apostraphes may indicate syllable boundaries like in Romaji or elision as in English. It's essentially impossible to fairly criticize Tom's present...

Re: Comic for June 6th 2013
We don't know she's sterile, though. We know she thinks she's sterile and that she doesn't go through estrus. Still, it's super duper unlikely Mekkan doctors could cure her even if her condition could be cured. Internal medicine is basically making sick people eat/drink random stuff and hoping they ...

Re: Comic Page for Sunday, June 2nd, 2013
The thing that throws me is that experiencing estrus has little to do with whether or not you're infertile. Kat should still go through normal hormone cycles, she just wouldn't have any possibility to produce offspring. That seems strange to me, because the estrus cycle would be born completely out...

Re: Comic Page for Sunday, June 2nd, 2013
I'm more in line with unsteddy here. Many people do qualify themselves by their ability to do what humans, what all life forms do, reproduce. Infertility hits a lot of people hard, even if they never actually wanted children, because something that is so basic and fundamental is just off the table. ...

Re: Comic Page for Sunday, May 26th, 2013
You know, there have been times where a white couple has had a black child; it's called a "throwback", and it's due to one of them having a black ancestor whose genes have lain dormant recessively, but still being passed down through generations but not expressed, but suddenly reappear du...

Re: Comic for May 19th, 2013
Well, yeah, obviously a human/rabbit couple would need to do in vitro fertilization due to the size difference.

Re: Comic for May 19th, 2013
Well one easy way for something to be overridden by magic would be simply the surface receptors on the reproductive cells. A small input of magical energy could easily change the shape of the proteins and whatnot that serve as docking sites for fertilization, allowing the cells from two different s...

Re: Comic for May 16, 2013
Well, yeah. In 13th Century France, for example, the idea that you should have a wife that you don't hate for childmaking purposes and a mistress for real love was pretty popular with the nobility, but there's a distinction to be made between Christianity and culture X which is predominantly Christi...

Re: Comic for May 16, 2013
POST-SUBMISSION ADDENDUM: It is true that sex with animals has been frowned upon for thousands of years in Western society, but this had NOTHING to do with the rights of animals, or the idea that animals were being "raped" against their will. This was more to do with the whole "any s...
