Re: Football Coach on Paid Leave for Praying on the Field
And again the Pledge comes up. Saying the pledge affirms belief in god, and not saying it makes one subject to bullying. And, based on the linked articles, this bullying still occurs around the country. I for one was commanded by a teacher to stand for the Pledge several times in gradeschool, I jus...

Re: Football Coach on Paid Leave for Praying on the Field
That's...not really comparable, honestly. That woman was refusing to do her job as assigned to her by the state and not allowing people of a different mindset to have the same liberties. This man isn't refusing to do his job, he's just wanting to do it while having the opportunity to pray at the ga...

Re: Football Coach on Paid Leave for Praying on the Field
I agree, except for the fact that nobody but the district has complained so far. But again, who would complain? Certainly not the person leading the prayer, or the people who want to follow along. The people who don't want to follow along are then presented with the risk being ostrasized or bullied...

Re: Football Coach on Paid Leave for Praying on the Field
On the other hand, the players have made it abundantly clear that their coach never forced his beliefs upon them, but that they joined in of their own volition. All of them? Can you say for sure none of the students are being coerced into joining because of their friends and/or classmates? That's t...

Re: Football Coach on Paid Leave for Praying on the Field
I think the fact that he's an assistant football coach for a High School (i.e. a government-funded institution) and this was during hours, along with the fact that other students started joining in, puts some bearing on what is or isn't allowed. In a sense, it'd be a like a teacher or teacher's assi...

Re: Twokinds & Avatar
And here I thought Avatar was basically just a remake of Dances With Wolves, with aliens in place of Native Americans.

StarFox: Event Horizon
This somehow slipped under my radar, and I just recently found out about it. It's a free fan-made game/Freespace 2 mod, allowing you to play as several StarFox characters (and a couple special guests ) in missions based on familiar StarFox l...

Re: Comic for October 7, 2015
English has pronouns in four genders: male, female, neutral, and unperson. However, three of them only exist in third-person forms - singular having male (he, him, his) female (she, her, hers) and unperson (it, that, its), while plural has neutral (they, them, their/theirs) and unperson (those). &q...

Re: Ember
We are rapidly approaching a point where human modification can be at our doorstep any moment; from extending lifespans to electronic implants We're already there. I could very well be dead by now if it wasn't for an electronic implant in my chest (a pacemaker), and I know someone who would be dead...

Re: Trash Mobs: A Rant on an Annoying RPG Trope
I get what people mean when they say it's creating a journey, an aspect of looking to the long-term more than the short term, but it's still a journey where I see the field enemies as a bunch of nuisances, pests that are just keeping me from getting to the real meat of the game. I think this speaks...

Re: Trash Mobs: A Rant on an Annoying RPG Trope
But again, why can't the fights themselves do this? Dark Souls uses its fights to enhance the world around you: it signifies just how much of a bleak and merciless land it is through the trials and travails that you go through with the game's enemies. I wouldn't mind having a more difficult traditi...

Re: Comic for October 7, 2015
In the real world (where fit athletic women generally don't wear J cups, men who spend a lot of time wielding swords and shields have developed pecs as if they spent a lot of time waving heavy objects around, and steel is significantly less flexible than spandex), that sort of armor rarely needs bo...

Re: Comic for September 23, 2015
kathrin knows those two are in a relationship, and i view it as disgusting to try getting between two people who love each other. i view loyalty, honor, and love as very important things to respect, and kathrin is stepping all over those things. no one will convince me otherwise that kathrin had an...

Re: Trash Mobs: A Rant on an Annoying RPG Trope
I hope you can appreciate that some people do like the challenge of managing resources, myself included :P Yeah, that's actually what I see RPGs as being. Managing your character's or characters' stats and resources. I really dislike health regen in RPGs, because then it just becomes a matter of wh...

Re: My opinion on Natani
Of course it should not be ignored that while in heat, Natani completely shut away from Zen to prevent awkward "transmissions" and then proceeded to display a decidedly feminine character both externally and in thought. Although it's implied that the first time Natani was in heat after th...
