Re: Creepy Story Hub

Besides Caver, the only other good creepy story I know is the haunted Majora's Mask story.

Re: Does a film being in 3D affect your likelihood of seeing

Yes - I'm less likely to see it if it's in 3D (thankfully, most movies also have 2D versions I can watch instead). The reason is because many movies have been using 3D as a gimmick: it just makes the movie look cooler and rarely improves the quality of the movie as a whole. This is fine for movies t...

Re: Batman gunman kills 12 injures more

Unless I'm mistaken, we have a lot of gun activists (be it to whatever degree) in this thread. I'm in the middle, but I'll throw myself in the lot with that aside I just said. But I'm kind of curious about where a lot of you come from, and why there's such a large majority of you. Because, once aga...

Re: The Lowest Difficulty Setting in the Game of Life

I am so sorry Sebbie. I didn't mean to come across all attack-y and stuff. Chalk it up to Victoria-just-got-back stresses, please. Ha, don't worry about it! I guess you've never gotten into an argument with me before, but I've been in plenty of heated arguments with other forumites, and we're still...

Re: The Lowest Difficulty Setting in the Game of Life

Did I not just say that I didn't like the implementation of affirmative action? If you're going to attack me, please at least have the courtesy to attack me over claims that I've actually made, rather than claims that I agree with you on. Mouse, you seem to think that making hiring fair and blind to...

Re: The Lowest Difficulty Setting in the Game of Life

But 'racist' is exactly where everyone immediately goes when we start talking color and privileges. BECAUSE we've been hit over the head with it repeatedly ad nauseum. It is an ugly accusation shouting loudly in the back of all our minds whenever the topic comes up, and frankly, I'm past tired of i...

Re: The Lowest Difficulty Setting in the Game of Life

I think "racist" is the wrong word to use here, and is the reason for so much disagreement with the article. If the article were saying "Open racism still exists and that's why SWM have it best," then I would have to disagree. Outright racism (the "old-fashioned" kind) ...

Re: Creating a forum

That helped; thanks a lot! I ended up going with Forumotion. In fact, because I'm using it for "Higher Education," I get it without ads for free, so it all works out :)

Creating a forum

Hi guys, I have a question to ask. Some of my classmates and I are planning a lecture series this summer, and we'd like to have a place online where we can discuss things. A forum sounded perfect, but I know little about creating them. So, I'd like to ask: does anyone know if there are any "pre...

Re: "Church Urges On Four-Year-Old Boy Singing Anti-Gay ‘Hym

Would someone who believed in ghosts be a true skeptic, even if they were part of the American Skeptic's Society?) There's a problem with that, Mea. A skeptic isn't someone who refuses to believe in something, it's someone that refuses to believe in something that hasn't been proven to them . If a ...

Re: "Church Urges On Four-Year-Old Boy Singing Anti-Gay ‘Hym

I find it very interesting you're choosing to be lax in this case of labeling, where you have before insisted on ironclad definitions. What? I just gave a perfectly objective and rigorous definition of "Christian;" this is a classic example of my adherence to firm, objective definitions! ...

Re: "Church Urges On Four-Year-Old Boy Singing Anti-Gay ‘Hym

Wynni, like I said, if you want to choose a definition for the term "Christian" and use that to label people (which is precisely what you're doing), that's fine. But you're going to run into a lot of problems trying to come up with any kind of collective data on "Christians" if t...

Re: "Church Urges On Four-Year-Old Boy Singing Anti-Gay ‘Hym

Oh, certainly, and for pretty much any reasonable interpretation of the Biblical Christ, I agree. What I wanted to make clear is that I disagree with claims like "Fred Phelps [or whomever] does not follow Christ's teachings, therefore he's not a Christian."

Re: "Church Urges On Four-Year-Old Boy Singing Anti-Gay ‘Hym

I should step back in and say that I posted that quote because I thought Silver might like it, not because I 100% agree with it. In fact, I think MeaCulpa is right: it's not religion per se that can make people do bad things; it's any kind of blind belief or strong authority (the Milgram experiment ...

Re: "Church Urges On Four-Year-Old Boy Singing Anti-Gay ‘Hym

This seems appropriate to your comment, Silver:
Steven Weinberg wrote:With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
