Re: Twokinds 10th Anniversary Contest

I've been reading 2kinds for more than five years. It's pretty great.

That's probably my favorite page in recent memory. It's very sweet, and something I've been waiting on for five years.

Yes good.

This is a very comforting story to come back to, albeit infrequently. c:

Next up is this: Crying over Spilt Milk No use No use No use Is this how it ends? Not with a whimper, but a bang? A gunshot, an assassination plot prerecorded to the same tune we danced to? We were grinding to this beat, old when the world was new. Our feet on the floor of the coffin wall—Bang bang,...

Windwaker Writes Poetry

So sometimes I write poetry. And sometimes that poetry doesn't suck. I think I'll share some of it here--constructive criticism is always welcome, as is general poetry-related chat. When I was applying to college, William & Mary gave me a blank space on the application and said "fill this s...

What is your opinion/the russian public's opinion as far as you can tell, of the Pussy Riot incident?

Re: Avatar: The Legend of Korra

I really love how creative they're getting with the non benders' fighting styles. I wasn't surprised by the chi blocking, but the electro-sticks (which were [censored] awesome) really caught me off guard. Which reminds me, how'd they get to that level of tech in only 70 years? Same way we did I ima...

Re: Megaupload Shutdown

Woah. Conspiracy theory indeed.

I'm inclined to believe the worst in this instance, but is there any way for us normal human beings to find out? It seems like this discussion'll be entirely rampant speculation. :o

US State of the Union

It happened.

What did everyone think? I though that Obama did a pretty good job. I'm feeling idealistic for the moment. :kathrin:

Re: Speed of light broken again

One thing to remember, however, is that despite them being massless, they can still carry energy and momentum, so they can still transfer energy and momentum. Right, and that's what's confusing me. @.@ In kinematics p = mv, so don't you need to have some mass in order to have momentum? I haven't le...

Re: Speed of light broken again

That means that a massive object needs an infinite amount of momentum and energy to travel at the speed of light, which is to say, it can't travel at the speed of light. A massless object, on the other hand, travels precisely at the speed of light; no more, no less. So, that's what it boils down to...

Re: Military will be given right to detain US citizens

Of course history is written by the victors, that's not the issue. A good historian seeks to look past that bias to determine the truth of events in the past. That's why it's particularly egregious that historians are calling this the "Slaveowners' Treacherous Rebellion"--if they are--beca...

Re: 10 reasons the US is no longer the land of the free.

*raises hand*

I read this in the physical paper, actually. :kathrin:

Anyway! Question for discussion:

Do we think that these measures are justified by the terrorist threat against the US, or no? And if no, what should we be doing instead of these measures to protect ourselves RIGHT NOW?
