Re: so... my laptop's ability is slow start...
When it stops accessing the harddrive is the HD totally silent or do you hear any clicking noises? Like a "click-click, click-click, click-click, click-click-click-click-click" noise?
I'm thinking it's harddrive related at this point.

Re: ALL the Comic Threads (and then some!)
I totally missed that. I've improved my parser-handler to take those links into account and start logging errors for later looking at.

Re: ALL the Comic Threads
By the by, have you considered extending your thingamajig to parse for link destinations as well? You seem to have some kind of parser bug that's left a lot of stray "</a>" in the title texts, and there are many more than I would have expected. I don't suppose you store the html as well a...

Re: April Fools' CSS
I thought it was great... and I learned something new about css -- that is, these transforms also work on animated gifs, and it works /correctly/(at least in firefox). I'll probably find a use for this at work one of these days...

Re: QUESTION THREAD!
I agree. Typically, if your harddisk is failing, you can usually 'hear' it fail -- listen whenever the OS is 'hanging'. You might well hear a "click-click, click-click, click-click, cllllllllllllllllllllick" sound. You hear that, it means the HD is toast and you need a new one immediately....

Free, and for watching? Proxies, forget about it. Free proxies are way too slow for that, they usually block media streams. The only free solution I am aware of are VPNs (Virtual Private Network). The ones I've used are: -Expat Shield (it gives you a British IP address), and stuffs your websites wi...

Re: Suggestions for a New Graphics Card?
Realistically, you can play modern games with good enough settings with a /560/, let alone anything newer(Thanks, consoles!) Take your price range, and find the newest *60-*70-*80 series card you can find. Typically, you'll find a sweet spot somewhere in there, if you compare performance for what mo...

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a Microsoft Sidewinder Joystick to work with Kerbal Space Program? EDIT: Okay so it seems to work natively, but I still don't know what on earth that knob on the front is for. http://www.hammerfistclan.com/forum/attachments/f271/7020d1383711056-joysticks-sid...

Re: QUESTION THREAD!
I've usually gone with either taking the old HD out, copying the files I want off and then doing a full wipe, or simply buying a new(bigger) HD, and installing fresh onto /that/, and then copying any files I want off the old HD via a USB adapter. The second is the easiest, as you never have to worry...

Re: Locked Forums
It's just another feature of the forum software, which we haven't used yet. It's useful if you decide to, say, archive a whole forum or just archive all the old topics and force everyone to create new ones... Or do the same thing to an entire forum. I've also seen it used when someone screwed up a f...

Re: Internet voters trying to rig NASCAR's MPD Award
I find it funny, and I honestly hope they succeed. For a couple of reasons: One, because I don't care about NASCAR either way. ( Though... ) Two, because it proves just how fragile and easily-gamed online voting is. Hopefully it'll increase security long term, and/or make people skeptical of anythin...

Looks like they're looking for professional funding, so we'll see what, if anything, comes out of it.
It looks nice, though.
